(RNS) Tony Campolo, a progressive evangelical leader who counseled President Bill Clinton through the Monica Lewinsky scandal, announced Tuesday (Jan. 14) that the organization he founded nearly 40 years ago will close on June 30.
Campolo, 78, plans to retire with the closure of the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education, but he will continue to write and speak, with nearly 200 engagements scheduled for 2014. He said his health is fine and he wants to write one more book on how Christianity fits with the social sciences.

Looks like fake Christianity just doesn't sell as good as the real thing. Glad to see this org going belly up.

So the wolf finally takes off his sheep costume.
Social sciences = Marxist theory
Luke 13:27
Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
I’ve done face to face interviews with Campolo and he’s always been around claiming to represent the middle ground but in other interviews calling himself a “progressive”.
He’s a fascinating character and gained popularity with his humorous public appearances at the big youth events in the evangelical Christian subculture.
He looked and sounded like Don Rickles and was sucked up by a religious subculture looking for its own personalities and entertainment.
Campolo presented different ideas from the Left that he carefully presented to religious audiences with humor and satire.
By the time of Clinton’s presidency he seemed to be closely tied to the Democrat agenda beyond Lewinsky damage control like Campolo’s book promoting the anti-smoking cause.
Very poorly, if at all.
Whenever I see the word “social”, my first thought is it’s missing the “ist” on the end.
Didn’t Slick Willie fake a tear in that scene?
“Beware of false prophets.”
Definitely...right up there with Francis.
Tony Campolo preaches mysticism. When a true relationship with Jesus Christ is non-existent in one’s life, mystical experiences appear to fill that spiritual void. The euphoria and bliss that meditation creates is thought to be the voice and presence of God. But in reality, these practices are tied to Buddhism, Hinduism, and Catholicism rather than to biblical Christianity. The Bible makes it clear that the only way to be born again is through receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior by faith. While being today being called Christian by some, these doctrines of ancient mysticism are anything but Christian and extremely dangerous.
Paul warned in I Thessalonians 5:5-10 to not exchange a true and wonderful relationship with Jesus Christ for one that can only lead to darkness.
Note for Tony:
We are in the world but not of it.
Christianity is not “social science” its based on faith and the substance of things not seen but hoped for.

re: but he will continue to write and speak, with nearly 200 engagements scheduled for 2014
He certainly won’t be receiving the speaking fees that his fellow travelers Bill & Hillary receive, but 200 “love offerings” should line his pockets well for 2014 as he spews his contempt for Biblical Christianity while maintaining that he holds to the “real thing”.
He will probably be hired to work for Hitlery’s campaign.
Campolo says that abortion is okay because a baby is not alive until it breathes air.
His proof: Scripture says God breathed “the breath of life” into Adam.
In other words, a demonic Scripture-twister.
Not a fan of Campolo but can you provide documentation of this statement?
It’s in one of his books. I read it in a bookstore.
