On Thursday, a 27-year old white Houston man was indicted for a hate crime for punching an unsuspecting 79-year old African American man. The incident occurred on November 24th and resulted in a broken jaw for the elderly victim.
Investigators say that Conrad Alvin Barrett sucker punched the man and laughed while yelling “knockout” as the victim fell to the ground. Detectives further remarked that he had videoed the “knockout” blow on his cell phone and later shared the recording.
Barrett remains in custody since his arrest on December 26th. A court hearing is pending next week. His lawyer, George Parnham, has commented that Barrett has a bipolar disorder and was off his medication at the time of the assault.
Back in December, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson said, “Evidence of hate crimes will be vigorously investigated and prosecuted with the assistance of all our partners to the fullest extent of the law." If Barrett is convicted of the hate crime charge, he could be sentenced to up to ten years in prison and fined up to $250,000.

That said, I agree with the other posts about the discriminatory way "hate crime" laws are enforced. Not the old guy's fault though, unless he's an Obama voter.

But, no hate crimes were brought against Jonathan and Reginald Carr for the Wichita Horror, or the perps in the Channon Christian/Christopher Newsom murders.
“Hate” crimes are a farce, as they are only applied against whites. Blacks and other minorities always get a pass on committing “hate” crimes.
I am so disgusted at what my beloved America has become, and the blame for what it has become falls right at the feet of the f***ing liberals.

I think it certainly is payback. Slavery ended. The bad part is, the payback will never end, and there never will be any push back from whites. The government will never allow that.
And......? If he doesn't have the sense to stay on his medication, perhaps he should not be free to walk the streets.
When's the last time a crime was committed where there was no hate involved?
If I was on the jury I'd very probably,evidence permitting,vote guilty on at least one count,if not more.However,I wouldn't vote guilty on any charge that involves the word "hate".Not in a million years.
Can't speak for Texas but New York has charged a couple of black knockout game participants with hate crimes.
