HIDALGO COUNTY - Illegal immigration is forcing a rancher to move his livestock away from a property along the Rio Grande.
Jose Cavazos said it's become nearly impossible to maintain his fences. He said immigrants damage them when they flee from Border Patrol agents.
Cavazos isn't the only rancher dealing with the destruction.
Damaged fences lead to stray cattle, ranchers said.
"They completely destroyed the fence. I had to move (the livestock) to another 76 acres," Cavazos said.
Cavazos lives along the Rio Grande, just south of Mission.
Cavazos said Border Patrol boats force illegal immigrants onto his property. He said it costs him thousands of dollars to fix the damage.
The immigrants also leave behind inner tubes and other refuse.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS Reporter John Bartell spoke with Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) about the issue.
"That is a problem we need to address. It's not just the undocumented aliens that cross, but sometimes it's Border Patrol that crash and do damage," Cuellar said.
Cuellar said the U.S. Government Accountability Office is working on a one-year study that may lead to restitution for landowners.

It’s time they stop paying ANY taxes, property or otherwise, on land they have lost control over.

The way to solve this problem is to use nature against them. Specifically to dig the equivalent of a dry moat, and plant it full of cholla “jumping” cactus. The stuff is downright evil.
I love how Dem. Rep. Cuellar uses the politically correct “undocumented alien”, but also blames the Border Patrol.
We can’t hurt the feelings of the people breaking our laws, now can we?
Maybe a GOP Hispanic outreach team led by Jeb Bush can be parachuted in to help.
They’d have to get across they rio grande stocked with big gators, over an electric fence and a deadfall, then past the anti personnel minefield if that was my property.
Shoot ‘em in the U.S., throw the bodies into Mexico.

The way this "news article" is written it makes it sound like there would be no damage to this ranchers property if only the mean old racist Border Patrol didn't hunt down the poor undocumented immigrants.
They are not “immigrants”, they’re ILLEGAL F’N ALIENS.
Here in our desert, we have a few neighbors who use closely-planted cholla as their fences....they get no doggies, kitties or coyote visitors from those directions.
