Is this about the collapse of the price of rice? They had a rice price guarantee that was close to bankrupting their country.
A liberal puppet prime minister, much like our socialist president.
Isn't the global price of rice at some multi-year peak? I remember when the price of Carolina rice was routinely 20 cents a lb. Now it's 40 cents, on sale.

The price is actually very low right now compared to near the end of 2008

Back then the Thailand government thought it could corner the rice market and began buying all the rice grown in the country for a nice sum.
It never occurred to them that other countries would respond by growing more rice, causing the price to plummet. Meanwhile the system was left in place at insanely high costs to the Thailand taxpayers.
We are listening to ASTV which is pro-protester and things don’t sound good. The protest groups are surrounded by armed police who insist on arresting the leaders. Still a stalemate right now. We’re hoping the government doesn’t start importing red shirts from the North and Northeast.
sounds like a lot of the chao na ( rice farmers ) who would be thought to be red shirts , are also ticked off because the rice supports prices are not being paid out for current paddy?
The government was buying the rice for more than it was worth, it was a mal-investment of the highest order.
That it was but, having lived in the North, the rural poor are true believer red shirts and I don’t see that changing. Our friends at CMU and Payap are mostly in support of Suthep.
