All EMS Wear Bulletproof Vests Due To Increased Crime In Area
BELLPORT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) A Long Island volunteer emergency medical service worker was injured after the ambulance he was riding in was shot at.
As WCBSs Sophia Hall reported, a bullet went through the back window of the South Country Ambulance as volunteers were responding to a call in Bellport Tuesday night.
Broken glass sprayed through the back of the ambulance, officials said.

Biting my tongue.
What's there to bite your tongue about.
Its not possible and we all know why.
Get ready for “no go zones.” What rational person would fire on an emergency vehicle? Answer: none. However, this is the wrong question.
Rest assured I am second to no one in being very saddened and appalled by this inappropriate ObamaVoter on ObamaVoter violence
I live two towns over from where this happened. Doesn’t surprise me at all. Parts of that town or areas you do not drive through.
There are also parts of Bellport that you would correctly describe as slums.
I went all through those photos. Looks like a very nice neighborhood, but it’s noticeable that the school pictures show a lot of black kids. And the athletic teams look mostly black.
I would guess that this is another town that was formerly absolutely gorgeous but that the government probably moved in new people to “integrate” it, and maybe built some government housing. Pure guess, from those photos. I know it’s happened in places on the north shore, and evidently there on the south shore, too.
Folks don’t get deceived by these pictures which indicate a beautiful mid-upper class South Bellport. The north part of Bellport is a slum, with many bordered up houses, high crime and drug dealing prevail, actually it is a real $#it hold.
“The median income for a household in the village was $77,523, and the median income for a family was $80,850. Males had a median income of $51,189 versus $40,985 for females. The per capita income for the village was $38,906. About 0.6% of families and 1.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 0.9% of those under age 18 and 1.7% of those age 65 or over.”
This isn’t East Saint Louis.
North Bellport, adjacent to Bellport, on the other hand is a very diverse community. Perhaps old, retired Florida police captains may live to there.
Bbut, I thought ny just passed some serious gun control laws?
You are correct that was a year ago and so there is a great deal of press coverage... and since the law’s passage in the middle of the night, there have not been any shootings in Connecticut by Assault Weapons legally purchased in New York state, at least that I have heard of.
Are you saying that the (Al Gore invented) internet would deceive us?
Fort Apache on the Water.
Probably Tea Party members.
Let me guess:
1. The usual “experts” will declare that the shooter was a white, male, Tea-Party type.
2. The SRM will report the story and use it to call for overturning the Constitution.
3. The shooter will turn out to be a member of a Protected Class and/or a Leftist.
4. The story will vanish down the memory hole.
I live here. The median income is skewed due to how the neighborhood is set up. It’s a right side / wrong side of the tracks thing.
Anything south of Montauk Highway (around 1/2 mile or so to the Great South Bay) is beautiful, very expensive. North of Montauk highway to Sunrise Highway is a slum you wouldn’t drive through without bulletproof glass.
Thanks, appreciate the info.
