Alex Rodriguez suspended for 162 games

... The ruling, issued by arbitrator Frederic Horowitz, is a reduction from the 211-game suspension Rodriguez was handed by MLB commissioner Bud Selig back in August, but it’s still the longest drug-related suspension in MLB history. For the 38-year-old Rodriguez, it means the loss of an entire season and $25 million in salary. The Yankees will gain $27.5 million worth of salary relief for luxury tax purposes, since the average annual value of his deal is what counts there. That will aid the team’s attempt to get below the $189 million threshold to reset their luxury tax rate, but it leaves a major hole in their lineup.

In a statement, Rodriguez said he would he appeal the ruling in federal court, though the likelihood of a judge overruling the collective bargaining process is believed to be slim....

One full season.

Probably got off easy if he's a serial PED user, since those suspensions go up 50 games for EACH infraction. How long do you suspend someone who has done those drugs 20, 50, 100, 400 times?

A-Rod is lucky he wasn't banned for life.

if anybody deserves to be suspended, it would be Obama, Holder, Boehner and McConnell.

but it leaves a major hole in their lineup.

As a lifelong Yankee fan I'd say .... "snort".

He should have been banned for life, all of his stats should be erased, and the skankees stripped of their World Series titles for the years that A fraud has been with the team.

What’s odd about this 162-game suspension is that should the New York Yankees make the playoffs, Rodriguez would apparently be eligible to play.

Frankly, I’ve grown tired of the entire sports doping controversies. A couple of juicers up for the Hall of Fame got passed over this year, but seriously, given the anti-semites, psychopaths, and assorted other low-life who are already in the Hall, what possible difference, at this point, does it make?

OK, he might be allowed spring training too, but still .... how good would it be to put someone on the field who has had no game experience for the last 6 months, right into the most pressure-packed portion of the season?

Nope, any possible postseason play is included in the suspension.

Next move: request a federal judge grant an injunction against MLB enforcing the suspension.

This is not over.

I don’t think it quite works that way. If he did the drugs over a period of time and then got caught, it’s one offense. MLB said his attempts at obstructing the investigation and his false statements were additional offenses.

Steroids can make one better at baseball, hating Jews and nailing hookers doesn’t.

As a lifelong Yankees hater I’m hoping the suspension is overturned so the Yankees don’t get $25M in salary relief, which would give them them a ton of extra money to spend on players who might actually be productive.

The agreement that the union signed onto goes 50 games - 1st offense; 100 games - 2nd, 150 - 3rd, etc.

So if MLB had him dead-to-rights for just 4 times, they could push it for a cumulative 500 games suspension - that's more than 3 full seasons. At A-Rod's age, that would be the end of his career.

And I'll bet there's a lot of evidence MLB is sitting on, that we the public don't know about. A-Rod is lucky he'll get another chance to play.

“Steroids can make one better at baseball, hating Jews and nailing hookers doesn’t.”

Studies suggest that sex can boost testosterone levels, which could possibly enhance athletic performance. I doubt the hooker aspect was studied, however.

When they start doing this for all players that fail tests or other...then I will begin to respect Baseball again! Actually that applies to all sports or anything else that needs testing... All are a bunch of do anything to get ahead creeps!

Lucky for him he did not make fun of homosexuals, SI would have called for a permanent banning.

Just got their most recent issue, and yes, yet another pro-homo column. I canceled them, maybe they keep sending it hoping I will change my mind.

OTOH, just checking and seeing they are staying the course with the homo promoting emphasizes why I dumped them.

Of course, they do not care what a few of the readers think. Time magazine owns them, and they must march to the tune the paymasters play..............
