Attempts to reverse the impacts of global warming by injecting reflective particles into the stratosphere could make matters worse, say researchers.
A new study suggests the idea, seen as a last-ditch way to deal with runaway climate change, could cut rainfall in the tropics by 30%.
This would have devastating impacts on rainforests in South America and Asia
The research has been published in the journal Environmental Research Letters.
The concept of curbing rising temperatures by blocking sunlight has been discussed by scientists for many years now.
Some of the ideas have been dismissed as crazy notions, but others have been taken more seriously.
One of the most credible plans involves using reflective particles called aerosols to reflect solar radiation away from the Earth.
This happens naturally when volcanoes erupt, sending plumes of ash into the stratosphere, as with Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines in 1991.
Now a team at the University of Reading have modelled the impacts of a large-scale injection of sulphur dioxide particles at high altitudes around the equator.

Lately, the spraying over the Bay Area has increased,, so did our cold snap and lack of any moisture falling locally.
Sometimes, man can be a real pain in the keester and his own worst enemy.
Just becuz volcanos still blow up doesn't mean it's not man's fault too. any old lament will do for climate changers.
Stupid is as stupid does..
Stop spraying us. Please!
Where did all the water in the Amoozon go, you ask..
Look to the ice caps.
Researchers around the world continue to explore different climate interventions that might be used in extreme circumstances. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), in their recent report, acknowledged that every option should be considered.
But according to Prof Piers Forster, from the University of Leeds, the technologies are still in their infancy.
“At present, these injection technologies do not exist, even on paper, and this precludes an evaluation of realistic effectiveness or side effects.
“If we want to suppress global warming the only game in town at present is reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”
“A new study suggests the idea, seen as a last-ditch way to deal with runaway climate change, could cut rainfall in the tropics by 30%.”
Runaway climate change?
Really?
Come on BBC. What’s next for the BBC - a story on Godzilla’s continuing rampages through Japan?
There is no doubt that we are under attack by faux scientists and researchers whose only mission is make sure everyone is as miserable as the rest of the herd.
Add the UNIPCC on a mission,, well.. this could get real ugly.. real quick.
NO! Really?!?

“Both Sides Now”
(Clannad & Paul Young)
Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, I’ve looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun they rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done, but clouds got in my way
I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It’s cloud’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels the dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real, I’ve looked at love that way
But now it’s just another show, you leave ‘em laughing when you go
And if you care don’t let them know, don’t give yourself away
I’ve looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It’s love’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud, to say, “I love you” right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds, I’ve looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange they shake their heads, they say
I’ve changed
But something’s lost but something’s gained in living every day
I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all
This is nothing new and has been going on for years.
We live in a delicate balance as is here, having these goons out intentionally and otherwise messing things up worse is no solution, it may be a final solution. That must have the Zero Population GRowth folks hopeful. ;-]
What the envirowhackos are doing now is a result of their fraud being found out. Just like when you call out an addict, instead of continuing to deny, they move forward with their plans at full throttle, come what may. As such, instead of actually realizing any sort of “global warming” correction, they’re actually going to accelerate global cooling.

Global Cooling: Is an Ice Age Coming?

It would appear that their prayers for more snow and ice have been more effective.
Wasn’t there a Simpson’s episode where Mr. Burns constructed a huge device to block out the sun?
Joanie Mitchell
pollution used to block the sun until the clean air act stopped that
I know a quick, certain, method of injecting large amounts of fine particulate matter into the upper atmosphere. The hard part is deciding where to use the process, because it does cause a temporary spike in local temperatures.
It was completely overcast for most of the day on Monday but late in the afternoon the clouds cleared up and guess what? There were planes or drones spraying a diagonal pattern all across the sky. Why spray on cloudy days? Don’t the cloud reflect sunlight?
I am frightened that we will try geoengineering. That will work, and if our goal is to offset a fixed temperature increase due to global warming, we will lower the global temperature relative to the climate without geoengineering. The problem is that we could easily send the earth into an ice age (which is much more stable than our current warm period) if global warming is not real or is overestimated. I pray that the left isn’t that stupid; but then I look at the rest of the left’s choices, and I worry even more.
