The Palestinian ambassador to Prague, Jamal al-Jamal, was killed in an explosion at his residence on Wednesday in an incident which Czech authorities believe was likely an accident.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said ambassador Jamal was trying to open a safe that had been recently moved to his new home when the blast occurred. A Czech government source told the Reuters news agency that the explosion was probably caused by a faulty security device on the unit.
It was unclear what that was. Some safes can be fitted with mechanisms designed to destroy secret documents in the event of the lock being tampered with. The Czech source said the government did not believe it was an attack.
Czech police said the ambassador died of his injuries in hospital after the explosion on the morning of New Years Day in the two-storey suburban residence. No one else was injured, police said, although Jamals family was at home at the time.
No signs of damage to the house were visible from the street.
Police cordoned off part of the street and a half dozen police vehicles, fire trucks and two ambulances were there.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said it would send a delegation to Prague to help with the investigation.
yippee! the new year is off to a good start...
Was probably using the safe to ship suicide vests. Went off before they had a chance to pass them out.
That’s too bad.
It’s called an un-safe.
Palastine actually has AMBASSADORS?
Moslems often die when their IED’s detonate unexpectedly.
He was probably the courier to get bomb materials into Prague for moslem footsoldiers to attack the public.
Ancient moslem proverb: Never drop the diplomatic pouch.
So you’re saying this diplomat had explosive devices/materials in/near a safe in Diplomatic residence and it was an accident? Technically, that term may be true, but there is WAAY more to this than anyone is saying? no?
explosive bolts misfired? or fired? special edition safe?
darn,, just posted a BBC version as you let this thread rip.
Happy New Year!!
Wow. Surprised no one attributed this to a Mossad hit.
KARMA-—it’s a bi7ch.
Died of natural causes.
“Some safes can be fitted with mechanisms designed to destroy secret documents in the event of the lock being tampered with.”
Some safes are filled with diplomatic C-4 smuggled in diplomatic pouches by diplomatic pretenders for use in the delicate work of Palestinian diplomacy.
