“Clear Channel is making KFI 640 in a local-talk type of operation.”

I don’t know what that means. Will Rush still be on 640/KFI?

WWRL used to be "The Voice of Harlem", pretty much all soul music, all the time. I still remember Reverend Ike's Sunday night broadcasts. "GOD DOESN'T WANT YOUR ONE-DOLLAR BILL, God doesn't want your five-dollar bill, your ten, your twenty. GOD WANTS YOUR FIFTY, YOUR HUNDRED DOLLAR BILL!" He more or less promised that in return God would reward you seven fold. If you gave God fifty dollars, you were certain to win the numbers game (this is before the state muscled the mob out of the numbers racket) for $350 dollars! Actually, Reverend Ike's choir was quite good.

Conveniently, God had a mail drop at 4140 Broadway, New York, NY 10033, where the devout and pious could send cash.

What ever happened to Air America?

Why is it that, when liberals lecture us about how wonderful liberalsim is, that liberal talk radio never does well??? If so many people are liberal, then why doesn’t liberal talk radio get good ratings???

Dang...Rush is leaving KFI...WOW.

I remember being able to pick up KFI via my tooth fillings when I was stationed at March (a year or two ago, admittedly). Remember when PCSing to Robins (GA), I picked that station up all the way to Phoenix.

And as for Bill Handel...I seem to remember him being an irritating lawyer who loved radio so much he paid for a show on Saturday. So they're giving him a 5 day a week slot? Either he's improved vastly or KFI is desperate.

For the more important data.

KFI's Daytime radiation pattern:

KFI Nighttime:

KTLK Daytime:

KTLK Nighttime:

In other words, looks like it is going to really suck for Rush fans in Riverside/San Bernadino counties. What station is going to pick him up out there?

I'm really, really surprised at this. Because all Socialist-Progressives do is talk.

I checked the station last week to see if I could get a good signal (I can) and listened to a host talking to someone about starting a business and the challenges.

At first I thought they had made the change already until it turned out the guy was opening a marijuana dispensary in Colorado.

The host was happy for him and wished him the best of luck...

KFI 640 becomes "local talk" . . . .

The "Fairness Doctrine".. it's ba-a-a-a-a-ck only this time it's called "Localism".

"...leftists, rather than openly pursue a new Fairness Doctrine, now seek to achieve the same basic outcome by exploiting a vague FCC rule called 'localism.'"

There's also the matter of self-imposed "Fairness Doctrine" where owners and hosts actually believe "experts" who say that the public is turned off by political talk and criticism of PRESIDENT! Obama.

Obama favors and appointed one of the pukes from The Center for American Progress and Free Press (they got a P.O. box somewhere?) as FCC diversity chief. According to the article they claim that it's not fair that conservative talk dominates. So they say it's free speech for us but not for thee.

Just search the "net for how Obama adopted the nudge theory and how his administration put great efforts into "nudging" us as advertisers nudge us into buying their stuff.

Cass Sunstein a university employee who held an important job in Obama's administration even likens it to libertarianism.. actually "paternal libertarianism" where Obama's government (the parent) presents us choices and we (the libertarians) are "free" to choose from among the options on that list -- with some nudging to select the correct one.

I recall the "silenced generation" and the decades of the "Fairness Doctrine" where one hour a week of Buckley's Firing Line "was all the fairness conservative opinion needed" in the electronic medium.

When modern talk radio began about 20 years ago the most oft-heard caller comment was: "I didn't know others believed as I do!"

I'd rather see civil war than to lose free speech.

Sounds to me with all these changes Alan Colmes is effectively out of a job, good. No Lib talk in LA, NY, and dear God San Fran, What is left, Madison WI?

Countdown clock seems to be counting down to midnight _EST_ on early Jan 2 (2 days, 7 hrs etc) unless somehow the site is just showing the time to “local midnight” where you are (I’m in Boston myself)...whatever

Now that it’s January 23rd, it’s not just KFI that’s going to be the loser. Rush Limbaugh is going to lose out, too.

I can barely hear KEIB on my home radios, and I live in L.A. - not on the fringe, but right in the middle. Can’t really hear it in my car, either, so if I’m out and about during Rush, I won’t be listening to him.

I’ve been attempting to listen on my computer at home, but it’s screw up after screw up. This morning - 15 minutes of straight commercials from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m., followed by 3 minutes of Rush and then more commercials.

I’m calling it KIB now, because there is no “E” at all.

Good thing I have Audible.
