Sounds like your inner demon doesn’t like having too much light thrown on it.

Interesting how a “conservative” who would never think a sixteen year old is adult enough to vote, drink alcohol or be trusted with your credit cards thinks they’re all grown up when you need a place to put your penis.

Then tell us why you ignored the context in your comment?

We weren't talking about drivers licenses, or the process of readying teens for mature adults.

The context was...
...sexploitation...
...possible/likely? force & coercion...
...a person in a place of trust (a missionary) misusing it for either of the above mispurposes...

I mean even if somebody knew the specific circumstances here & tried to tell us that somehow there was a tad element of "mutuality" here...which, btw, LEGALLY isn't possible since "consent" isn't legally recognized when it comes to a minor's sexual activity with adults...if somebody says to me (like your keyboard mouth did):
"We should expect 16 year olds to behave more as adults than children. A 16 year old is more like an 18 year old than like a child." ...
...that's still a subtle form of advocating sexual experimentation outside of marriage.

No, Nik, We as a culture need to stop expecting 16 yo to behave as "adults" (vs. children) when it comes to sexual activity with bonifide adults outside of marriage.

That's a pro-family mentality; not your "let's totally ignore the context here" of what we're talkin' 'bout.

Yes. Excellent ... well, was going to say "point" but elected to use a less-protruding word ... Excellent assessment.

I caught that, as well. 16 child? Huh? Our grandparents and great grandparents would laugh at that.

How old was the missionary? Was the missionary 18? Was the missionary gay?

Anton,

Elsie is one of the biggest “Mormon Haters” I’ve ever encountered. Don’t feed her habit. She loves this $hit!

“Elsie is one of the biggest “Mormon Haters” I’ve ever encountered. “

If that is true, it should be so easy for you to point out “her” hate of a single mormon.

Let’s see what you have to prove your slander.

Where’s the hate???

(You talk as if this was carried out in the context of marriage...it wasn't)

Even within marriage...

Per http://www.wisegeek.com/how-has-the-average-age-at-marriage-changed-over-time.htm: If one looks at US statistics over the past 100 years for example, one sees that men had an average age at marriage of 25.9 years in 1900. Women in 1900 had an average age at marriage of 22 years. For some this shatters an illusion that women 100 years ago were sold into marriage as young children. Even Jane Austen, writing in the early 19th century had heroines married at the earliest age of 17 or 18. In Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, which are semi-autobiographical, her father would not allow her to marry until she was 18. Thus it can be said that the average woman was past 21 when entering her first marriage, 100 years ago.

Laura Ingalls Wilder was 17. She did not graduate from 12th grade because she was married. And....She writes about neighbor girls who married at 13 and 14.

I am wondering how old the missionary was and what was the sex of the 16 year old.

Consensual sex, when there is an age difference of a mere 2 years, 18 months, or less, is not considered abuse. It could be that the missionary was 18 and the other teen was 16 and nearing the age of 17.

I need to know more before shouting “SEX ABUSE” for all to hear.

It’s like watching someone burn their house down. Child = adult. Consensual = nonconconsensual. Rape = marriage.

I guess this world is all yours.

See 3 23

There was no charge of a sex crime. That is why no one wants to address the 0 hits on sex crime reg. Why is this pp[point being ignored.

There simply isn’t enough information in this article for me.

Religion shouldn’t be a factor in this. It would depend on the nature of the contact and the ages of the two involved. It is possible that the missionary was treated more harshly because he was a representative of a religion. Perhaps if he was just an ordinary guy, nothing would have come of this.

(Oh? What? The perp's confession & acceptance of the sentence wasn't enough? This was all post-sentencing; we're not at the early arrest stage of this felony. And what? You think those who don't think they are felons just readily accept that charge to be pinned on them for the rest of their life? And why is it that any churchworker charged with this would also have the spiritual-worker position of trust shadow hanging over them, but no concern from that angle seems to register on your part?)

Consensual sex, when there is an age difference of a mere 2 years, 18 months, or less, is not considered abuse

Sorry, but you miss the boat BOTH legally AND morally:

From the HHS guv Web site: Idaho: A. Statutory Rape—Criminal Offenses:

Idaho

Intercourse with a female under 18 years of age is considered rape, regardless of the age of the defendant.[227] The only defense to this crime is if the defendant is the victim’s spouse.[228] Sexual acts, not amounting to penetration, with a minor who is less than 18 years of age but at least 16 years of age are legal in cases where the defendant is less than 5 years older than the victim.[229]

Definition of Offenses

Offense
Definition
Sexual battery of a minor child 16 or 17 years of age[230] With the intent to gratify the lust, passions, or sexual desire of any party—committing lewd or lascivious acts,[231] soliciting a minor to participate in a sexual act,[232] or engaging in sexual contact[233] where the victim is at least 16 years of age and less than 18 years of age and the defendant is 5 or more years older than the victim. ...
Rape[236] Penetration[237] of a female who is less than 18 years of age and not the victim’s spouse.[238]

[So, please stop spreading your legal ignorance]

JaNiece Prices, assistant chief deputy prosecutor for Bannock County did just that. She said that based on the presentence investigation report and psycho-sexual evaluation, Starley did not appear to be a substantial risk to re-offend, but that he did need treatment for an addiction to pornography.

Addicted to porn, therefore deserving of a light sentence. It wasn't his fault he sexed up a 16-year-old. This, ladies and gentlemen, is why we have Mandatory Minimum sentences and reduced prosecutorial discretion.
