It only takes one or two customer murders to close a mall permanently.

The Dixie Square Mall near Chicago (the mall made famous in The Blues Brothers) went bust as a result of this dynamic. It started with a murder committed during a robbery in 1972. There were two more murders at the mall in 1973. By 1978, it was down to 20 stores, and the mall itself closed in November 1978.

It doesn’t matter how nice a mall is. No one wants to risk death to go shopping.

Think about the dynamic here: if the Mall at Short Hills massively ramps up their perimeter security, rousting loiterers and cruisers, there’s going to be a massive racial imbalance in the population of people that they hassle. Charges of racism will be brought immediately. The security patrols will be dialed back.

The next murder will put the mall under.

This one may be enough to do it. The next one is for sure.

Too bad New Jersey won't let its citizens defend themselves.

Out here in flyover country, we are allowed to carry concealed weapons. Both my wife and I are licensed and we both pack. Had a pair of goons approached us, both of us would have been ready to defend ourselves. Had the goons been stupid enough to attempt a carjacking, they would have had to deal with some personal protection ammo. The result would have been completely different.

This is something you people in the Garden State might want to discuss with Gov. Krispy Kreme and your Rat parliament the next time you get a chance.

I have no idea of the politics of the murdered man. On the whole NJ is a very left leaning state, and isolated incidents that show the folly of their policies are not going to infuse sense into the bulk of the populace. People like anti-gun Christie are elected for a reason - that reason being that he represents the preferences of the majority of the voting population.

I don’t know about the “too many here have joined the ranks of the perpetually outraged” thing but I heard on TV yesterday that the perps were black.

Megan Kelly covered this last night. She identified the perps as sons of the Mahdi. She also mentioned that this carjacking is one of a few hundred that have occurred in that area. Truly remarkable now carjacking drops off to just about zero once a state adopts shall issue CCW and couples it with SYG. Of course, NY and NJ are too civilized, preferring “gun free” zones; hence, los of carjackings.

My brother drives an 18-wheeler and did the same thing, ended up in the wrong part of that area.
He turned a corner and saw at the end of the block that some "locals" had set up a human road block to try and stop him.
He revved up the engine and started going through the gears..

They got out of the way.

Well then the Mall at Short Hills has nothing to worry about.

Let's see how long that priority lasts. As it competes against other priorities.

Witnesses can be in need of a lot of protection in these kinds of incidents.

"Stop Snitching" isn't an empty phrase. It's backed up by people with guns.
