Its lights out for the light bulb.
On Jan. 1 it will become illegal to manufacture or import traditional 60-watt and 40-watt incandescent bulbs, thanks to a 2007 bill that set strict minimum efficiency standards and effectively outlawed the ordinary bulb.
And like a politician on Election Day, Home Depot is urging consumers to buy early and often.
Get them while you still can, the nations largest bulb retailer urges on its website. Stock up on incandescent light bulbs before they are completely discontinued.

Not a big fan at all of this law but I try never to use thee bulbs anyway. Not very energy efficient and their light isn’t as good as LED or fluorescent or halogen.
“Liberals ruin everything they touch. No exceptions” Uhh you can BLAME this on 2 People, George W. Bush AND US Rep Upton(Rino-MI).

I thought only 75 watt and higher were to be phased out in 2014.
In 2013, it’s lights out for the 75-watt incandescent
And good ‘ole W signed it into law.
Leftists are not quite sane
I hate CFLs.
They put out all kinds of RF noise that plays havoc with radios.
Do you like the EPA's 3 pages of instructions for cleaning up after these new wonder bulbs break?
Rather frightening.

May have to place an order with them.
They’ll still be available just like the already banned 100 watt and higher bulbs are, you’ll just have to order them over the internet and since American bulb makers are no longer manufacturing them you’ll only be able to get ones produced in Asia.
Take a look at this one I found by doing a quick search:

Any type or size incandescent you would possible want.
lights Out Folks ,
Amazing how a product that revolutionized the world for the better is now considered evil.
$2000 cleanup.......
How much money does it take to screw in a compact fluorescent lightbulb? About $4.28 for the bulb and labor unless you break the bulb. Then you, like Brandy Bridges of Ellsworth, Maine, could be looking at a cost of about $2,004.28, which doesnt include the costs of frayed nerves and risks to health.
Sound crazy? Perhaps no more than the stampede to ban the incandescent light bulb in favor of compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) a move already either adopted or being considered in California, Canada, the European Union and Australia.
According to an April 12 article in The Ellsworth American, Bridges had the misfortune of breaking a CFL during installation in her daughters bedroom: It dropped and shattered on the carpeted floor.
Aware that CFLs contain potentially hazardous substances, Bridges called her local Home Depot for advice. The store told her that the CFL contained mercury and that she should call the Poison Control hotline, which in turn directed her to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
The DEP sent a specialist to Bridges house to test for mercury contamination. The specialist found mercury levels in the bedroom in excess of six times the states safe level for mercury contamination of 300 billionths of a gram per cubic meter.
The DEP specialist recommended that Bridges call an environmental cleanup firm, which reportedly gave her a low-ball estimate of $2,000 to clean up the room. The room then was sealed off with plastic and Bridges began gathering finances to pay for the $2,000 cleaning. Reportedly, her insurance company wouldnt cover the cleanup costs because mercury is a pollutant.

To reduce our electricity bill, we switched to LED bulbs in October when they had them at Home Depot for dirt cheap prices (relatively speaking). I actually like the light these bulbs emit better than CFL’s and I like the instant satisfaction of turning on a light and having it be a full strength right then.
Now...these LED bulbs best last longer than those forever bulbs I bought thru some charity a decade or so ago. They lasted exactly as long as any other bulb...which is to say...not that long.
Who knows? The day might come when a stash of 100-watters might be valuable barter items.
I think they’re down to 60’s now.
It was 100’s, then 75’s.
