Well those people didn’t do what was needed to get those officious officials out of their posts. Instead, those people worshiped those officials. The good Lord gave them what they asked for, in hope that they would see the folly and renounce it later.

I am still looking for that clause in the US Constitution which says:

"the federal judiciary shall use all powers over the people to eliminate any display which conflicts with the establishment of Humanism as the state religion . . ."
