Most of them have full time jobs and pull 12 hours shifts 1 day / week.

I know of an instance in 2009 where a volunteer EMT was denied unemployment because of only one call and a stipend of $60 in one month.
this was likely the subject of at least one meeting...the fundamental destruction of volunteerism...in fire departments...

I’m sure an exemption will be forthcoming. But the more the chop this thing up and shoot it full of holes, exemptions, delays, and special treatment - how many other groups will be looking for similar deals? It seems ripe for a whole slew of Equal Protection lawsuits.
