Representative Tom Price of Georgia has come up with an alternative to Obamacare, and it would save the country nearly $2.34 trillion in 10 years. The legislation is called the Empowering Patients First Act, H.R. 2300.
The proposed legislation would provide Americans with tax incentives for maintaining health insurance coverage, improve access to health savings accounts (HSAs), reform Medicare and Medicaid, and allow consumers to purchase plans across state lines. It would also guarantee coverage for roughly 1% of Americans with pre-existing conditions.
A former director of the CBO estimated that these reforms would reduce health insurance premiums across the board and reduce the budget by almost $2.34 trillion. It would help lead to smaller premium increases than what Obamacare provides. Additionally, the number of insured people would increase by roughly 29% in 2016.
Of course Obama has claimed that Republicans have not offered any ideas for other reforms to health care and cut costs. But obviously that is not true. This is a great alternative that would help insure almost as many people as Obamacare, but save much more money. Mr. President, here is the perfect alternative.
How about the government just get the hell out of the insurance and medical regulation business altogether. That would reduce costs tremendously and re-introduce competition into the medical market. It would make medical care something that just about everyone could afford. Insurance would become insurance again, what we call catastrophic coverage now.
Good point
One thing that hasn’t gotten much coverage is that a lot of the “bronze” and “silver” plans available have an HSA. They have to because the deductibles and caps are so sky high, most people don’t leave that kind of money sitting idle.
We government out of the way is what we need
If he throws in high deductable catastrophic coverage for every taxpayer, he’ll have a winner there.
Absolutely.
Most of the Bronze and Silvers are also 70% co-pays.
Can you guide me to a site where I can get a an idea of the plans or ideas that Republicans have offered in place of Obamacare?
Thanks
We don’t need another meddling federal ‘alternative,’ we need the feds to get their noses out.
“Health” insurance is what is driving the price of medicine through the roof.
Most people don’t need any health insurance; they just need to eat real food and get off of drugs.
But Rep. Price first needs to rally Congress to propose a healthcare amendment to Constitution to the states for ratification. And if the states choose to ratify such an amendment, then Rep. Price will have the constitutional authority as a federal lawmaker to try to sell his plan to the American people.
An HSA will quickly teach you that you have no need for doctors or drugs.
Ditto what many have said. This alternative plan still involves government.
Time for a free-market entrepreneurial solution that give control to the patient and the doctor.
More like 50%.
If you had paid attention then you would know that they were told to shut up every time they tried to present a plan
Personally, I’m still angry that ObamaCare was hoisted on us as something we MUST participate in in lieu of threat of arrest, fines, or both. The whole idea is unconstitutional. PERIOD!
And let it be named Pricecare.
Looking for tort reform too.
Government gets bigger and bigger and the GOP always comes up with a “less expensive” way to do it instead of eliminating it.
Powerful interests that provide large campaign contributions to our politicians must be supportive of Obamacare since the Republicans just want to modify it and spend less money apparently.
It’s not 50% BTW. Please do a little research on this and don’t blindly accept what the left claims. It ranges from 1-1/2 to 12 million people. About 1 in 7 people who apply for private insurance, which is less than 5% of Americans in the first place, are denied coverage or have to pay a lot more because of PEC.
