Texas grade school bans Christmas despite new state law EXPLICITLY allowing Christmas
The Daily Caller ^ | 12/7/2013 | Eric Owens

It seems like it would take a special combination of Grinchy, Scroogy awfulness and world-historical stupidity to run afoul of a straightforward new law in Texas called the “Merry Christmas Law” that allows children and teachers in public schools to celebrate Christmas and other winter holidays plainly and explicitly.

Naturally, then, a group of parents and a state legislator have claimed that the organizer of the winter party at Nichols Elementary School in the affluent Dallas suburb of Frisco has outlawed all mentions of Christmas at the event.

But, wait! There’s so much more. The unidentified, fun-hating party organizer has also banned Christmas trees, the colors red and green, the mention of any other winter holidays and anything that will stain the carpet, reports local Fox affiliate KDFW.

An also-unidentified parent forwarded an email from the party organizer to Pat Fallon, a Republican state representative, one of the co-authors of the “Merry Christmas Law.” Fallon wasn’t pleased/

“We’re celebrating Christmas, so why can’t it be a Christmas party or maybe a holiday party?” Fallon asked, according to KDFW. “But they’ve skipped over ‘holiday’ and go to ‘winter.’ That’s political correctness gone too far.”

Fallon investigated. He said both the school district superintendent and someone from the district PTA told him kids could, in fact, tell each other “Merry Christmas.”

Later, however, a PTA member sent Fallon information suggesting that the draconian anti-Christmas rules would be in effect:

“Today at the PTA meeting it was stated that they had decided to keep everything the same. She said they didn’t want to offend any families and since each family donates money they feel this is the best policy.”

On Wednesday, a school district official responded by sending its own email to KDFW saying:

“The school was unaware of this and it was not an official PTA correspondence either. There have never been any limitations on what students wear, what they bring to share with their classmates on party days… what greetings people exchange with each other.”

It’s not clear at this point if there will be any red or green decorations, or if anyone will be able wear red or green, or if there will any signs of Christmas trees at the Nichols Elementary winter party. The rule against stuff that could stain the carpet will likely stand.

Meanwhile, an Austin-based conservative advocacy group called Texas Values has been running radio an ad around the state reminding Texans about the “Merry Christmas Law.” At the end, a little girl says, “And remember, it’s okay to say ‘Merry Christmas.’”

The “Merry Christmas Law” sailed easily through both the Texas House and Senate. Vote tallies were 145-2 in the House and 29-0 in the Senate. It took effect in the fall of this year. (RELATED: Ho! Ho! Ho! ‘Merry Christmas Bill’ expected to become law in Texas soon)

The text of the bill specifically permits school districts to “educate students about the history of traditional winter celebrations.” It allows “students and district staff” to declare such things as “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Hanukkah” and even the soul-sucking “happy holidays.”

The bill also unambiguously legalizes displays of religious imagery associated with traditional winter holiday celebrations including nativity scenes, Christmas trees and menorahs. The caveat is that any display must include imagery from at least two religions or some additional secular symbol. (Messages encouraging adherence to a religion are verboten.)

And NO HOLIDAYS of any description are to be days off for the teachers. If they don’t respect my holidays I don’t respect theirs. Work ‘em seven days a week, summer and winter. No Saturdays off, Jewish, no Sundays, Christian. IOW work the bass turds till they either wake up or quit!

There will always be the super-Puritans who, because some possibly mistaken people might want to reverence Mary while looking at a figurine that represents her, will want to ban a scene with Mary in it, and to further drive home the point will take a swipe at the obvious fantasy story of Santa (who normally does not get put in creches). However they do tend to go easy on Frosty the Snowman, another obvious fantasy story.

To those people I say please grow up spiritually and let the air out of your prides. Even Jesus told fantasy stories, intended to be taken as fantasy stories, to illustrate very real principles.

Messiah spoke of the truth of the kingdom... bible states clearly who will and who will not inherit the kingdom... and isn’t this life supposed to be about inheriting the kingdom if you are a believer?

Or is the kingdom just a principle ?

Counterfeit is counterfeit

You construct a profoundly false dichotomy.

You inherit the kingdom by believing. That is an atomic action.

Then you learn about how to live in the kingdom by various means. Counterfeit status exists in purpose, not in medium. You give the devil way too much credit, and God way too little.

And yes, I do hold you to account for underplaying the conquering power of Christ. Even fantasy stories are neutral things as far as Christ is concerned. He can conquer their use without a problem. He is God. Surely a scene of His own birth is no problem for Him. The problem is in what we do. If we are sufficiently weak, we should refrain. But to use weakness as perpetual excuse to always refrain, grieves Him who wants to see His children grow strong.

At any rate, your carping won’t make these things go away, so we have two options... carp and stay weak, or conquer and take the strong approach and speak of how they witness for the Lord. You’re stuck in an ivory tower. Christ came out of the ivory palaces, into a world of woe. Is not the kingdom a matter of sound mind? That will put the neutral things in their proper place.

What is God’s view of idolatry? I must be missing something.

God’s view of what idolatry is, is to believe Satan’s lie about the creation’s purpose. And his view towards it, is that it should stop. And that He furnishes the power to make it stop!

Thank you for asking that question!

Yes, you are missing something profound, and that thing is purpose, and that thing is the power of God.

See, God has given me the power to see how in a way time itself and the calendar of this world and its festivals, etc, are all counterfeit from His.and His power has liberated me for living a religious free life...

I thank Him that I get that and others get the nativity and December 25th and Isis and astarte and chemosh and molech and tammuz and Zeus and nimrod, etc

Thanks to the parents and voters who do not fight back.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thanks to parents and voters who feed the socialist-entitlement schooling beast.

They feed the beast when they send their children into these temples of government worship.

They feed the beast when they elect representatives who will continue to provide money to run the beast.

Please remember that schools need to eat two in order to live; kids and money. By starving them of both. The beast dies.

Please remember that single-payer and socialist-entitlement programs ( schooling is our nation first entitlement and tenacious) can not be fixed. They must be eliminated.

It’s what liberals do. Illegal immigration, anti-2nd amendment laws, illegitimate president, etc, etc, etc.

Here’s a question:

Instead of school vouchers why not babysitting vouchers, and dump the schools completely?

I went to a public school and didn’t attend church and I know ALL of the Christmas songs word for word. We sang them in the Christmas programs at school!

Same here. I was an Army brat growing up. We moved too often to get settled into any church congregation, so we rarely attended religious services.

But, my siblings and I learned to sing all of the standard Christmas carols because we learned them in school. Christmas was a big thing in our family and in every community we ever lived in.

Rep. Pat Fallon is on top of all this. He is up and coming in the conservative movement - very similar to Ken Paxton who’s also up and coming. We know both personally and they are strong in their beliefs.

Well, you are only halfway to a conquering life.

The other half is to take the things that Satan flouted, and flout God right back in Satan’s face.

You sound more proud of your status than proud of Jesus, quite frankly. I am very, very proud of Jesus. Jesus is the champion par excellence.

Don't want to offend any families that aren't Christian. Christian families should band together to stop all donations to let them know who the real donors are....let the other unoffended families take up the slack for a while.

If there is one thing I am not anymore, it is proud of me...
I do understand how merciful and gracious our Savior is...
when I gave up the ‘all about me, all about here and all about now life’ for Him, He has kept His promises..and I have done nothing.and am nothing....
