The Dishonest Selling of Obamacare

As we experience more of the unpleasant realities of the Affordable Care Act, Americans are questioning, finally, the forthrightness and honesty of their president in his selling of this law.

As millions of individual health insurance policies are cancelled, it is transparent that the president distorted the truth when he told Americans, “ if you like your plan you can keep it.”

But misrepresentation goes beyond how a particular feature of the law was sold. It also applies to the selling of what this whole law was supposed to be about.

In a recent appearance at a synagogue in Dallas, President Obama summed up the supposed motivation in putting so much of the energy of his new administration behind passing this health care law. The bottom line, according to the president, was about making sure “that everybody had affordable, quality health care.”

Who, of any political stripe, would question the merits of this goal?

The problem is that the president is being as honest in stating that this was the goal of this health care law as he was in saying “if you like your plan you can keep it.”

The Supreme Court indicated this week that it would hear two cases of Christian operated firms – Hobby Lobby Stores Inc. and Conestoga Wood Specialties Inc. – who claim their religious freedom is violated by provisions of Obamacare forcing businesses to provide employees, free of charge, contraceptives, sterilization and abortion-inducing pills.

How exactly does forcing businesses to pick up 100% of the costs of abortion inducing pills for women employees reconcile with the alleged goal that all Americans get affordable, quality health care?

A White House blog about the cases written by Obama senior advisor Valerie Jarrett states, “Ensuring the full freedom of women as health care consumers to access preventative health services is a vital component of the Affordable Care Act.” And nothing is more “essential”, Jarrett goes on, than decisions regarding “reproductive health.”

In other words, to reconcile the words of Jarrett with those of her boss, the president, a “vital” and “essential” part of making sure that everybody gets “affordable, quality health care,” is giving women the “right” to do whatever they feel like regarding their sexual behavior, bearing zero personal responsibility for the costs associated with their behavior, and dumping those costs on someone else.

I hope you are scratching your head.

My experience with insurance plans is they lower premiums when customers demonstrate more responsible, cautious behavior. Certainly not when they claim the right to act as they please and then have other people pick up the tab.

If you go onto the now infamous healthcare.gov, you can click on a section that says, “What are my preventive care benefits?” There appears a special section on “Preventive health services for women.”

Why is there no special section “Preventive health services for men?”

A 2010 newsletter from Harvard Medical School talks about the “gender gap” in health, saying that when it comes to health, “men are the weaker sex.”

Life expectancy for women is 5 years longer than for men. Of the top ten leading causes of death in the U.S., the incidence among men is markedly higher than among women in 9 of the 10.

You would think if the health care law was going to focus on gender, it would focus on men.

The answer to all of this is that Obamacare was never primarily about getting the best, most affordable health care to Americans.

If it was, there would have been open discussion from the beginning about how best to achieve this. That open discussion never took place.

This was and is about bringing the left wing agenda of the Obama White House to America.

The result is displacement of religious freedom with left wing tyranny and the beginning of more expensive, lower quality healthcare.

It seems as though the news media has recovered the initial shock of the failure of the rollout and is beginning to rally in support of this POS law, as we knew they would. I'm seeing reports of how the law is 'helping' people, etc.

Its not gonna work. There's just gonna be one body blow after another to the tax paying public as far as this travesty is concerned. Question has always been how will the GOP react once it gains both houses.

OK, I know that the first response to this will be “wishful thinking” but since the law was passed in a clandestine way and its implementation has been a total cluster f**k, the law should be repealed ASAP.

This was the selling point for most libs. They got to feel good about themselves for supporting such a "good cause", regardless of its workability.

How adding 30 million and 1,000’s of pages of regulations and policies - it is not possible to achieve the objective.

This must be the most mis-named legislation in history.
It would have been cheaper and easier to simply buy insurance for the 30 million "uninsured" than to wreck the system for the 300 million others who had at least something.

Exactly!

If smokers are penalized with higher premiums for being irresponsible about their health... Why not penalize women who are so irresponsible that they will not take responbility for their OWN equally costly life-style choices??

Really, really think that the next ‘class’ of lawsuit for ObamaCare should be the mandatory maternity coverage. Women past menopause, sterile women, and any man should challenge the requirements that they pay for this and prenatal coverage as part of their plan..

The sad part is the only thing that PelosiCare has ever accomplished is the cancellation of millions of policies, and the dropping of tens of thousands from company policies. Of course, the intention was to insure those who weren't insured... Guess they figured they'd prime the pump by ensuring that there’d be a huge pool of those who up until now had insurance and would most likely go through the hoops to buy insurance again - just at hugely inflated prices.

HUH? COME AGAIN? “Everyone knows that 40 percent of Americans had no access to healthcare.”

INCONVENIENT FACTOID No one goes without “healthcare,” in our entitlement-driven country. The 40% of the people Obama "says" he's helping, did not lack health insurance.

Can any Democrat tell the truth?

==================================================

We have proof-positive AGAIN that Dims must never, ever be let anywhere near government power---they become obsessed with power. They will say or do anything to hold onto it.

====================================

COMMANDANT DNC DEBBIE GAVE THE MARCHING ORDERS: Dims got their orders----smile and say it's great, or else.

More like Dims colluding and conspiring to set the stage for massive voter fraud. The name of the game is protection from (gag) media scrutiny.

2014 Dim wins (if any) will be attributed to the wonders of Obamacare.

Remains to be seen if the electorate gets duped by the scheme. They got taken before-—remains to be seen if they get taken again.

Are you saying that only men smoke, and what do you mean by life-style choices? You really need to think this through again. Both females and males have costly life-style choices, Smoking is just one of them and it is not limited to just males. So is alcoholism

If women may depend on the government (read: taxpayers) for abortions... yes that’s irresponsible and costly.
