Nothing says class like an advertisement masquerading as a museum that benefits charity. At least thats what luxury brand Louis Vuitton seemed to think when it began construction on a gigantic100 foot long and 30 foot highreplica of one of its designer bags in the middle of Russias historic Red Square two weeks ago. But, as workers finished off the two-story structure this week, not everyone is happy. Russian residents have deemed the two-story designer bag, which sits steps from the Kremlin, as tacky and politicians decried the decision to build a shrine to bourgeois excess near such sacred ground, the Wall Street Journal reports.

That is a bit tacky. I was rather surprised when I was on Red Square to see a McDonalds close by. Red Square is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The view of St. Basil’s is breath taking.

That’s as ugly and out of place as those stupid pyramid at the Louvre
There is a truck-sized rocking chair up the street from here.
Anything for a ruble, I guess.
what does a ruble go for these days?
Maybe tacky, but when I was in Red Square 30 years ago, the GUM Department Store, right there on the square, was selling full-length men’s sable coats for $26,000 (supposedly only to foreigners). That makes a Louis Vuitton bag like something from K-Mart.
33 Rubles = $1
True, but I think it could be a good sign. Maybe the free market is really starting to take hold, if their public squares are getting as tacky as those in New York, London, or Tokyo :)
thanks
Bourgeois? Hahaha. Try minority Bolshevik opinion makers to whom the rules imposed do not apply...
In Russia, handbag carry you! ;)
