I realize there is not a whole lot we can do about the vote yesterday in the Senate regarding the rule change. However, I did call both of my senators from TN (Alexander and Corker) expressing my displeasure. Basically, I told them that this is what the appeasement from them (my two senators) has gotten us. The Dems want total control and inch by inch the GOP is giving it to them. I told both offices I would like to see some fight from them (I know, good luck!). I urge you to call your Senators and express your displeasure with this rule change.
I would love to be able to do that but both my senators are rats. The whole state is rat infested.
Executive orders, political intimidation by federal agencies, spying on Americans, the nuclear option in the senate, purges of high ranking military officers. We are seeing the outline of a mosaic that is painting an alarming picture: a power mad administration that will stop at nothing to consolidate power.
John Cornyn's legacy as Chairman of the NRSC -
Cornyn's Senate candidates:
Arlen Specter - Democrat
Charlie Crist - Democrat
Lincoln Chafee - Democrat
Lisa Murkowski - Independent
I also called my Senators. Said what you said pretty much. Reminded Coburn to quit going in back rooms with the likes of Schumer to make backroom deals, the Dems are to NEVER be trusted!
If it was this easy, why was this not done before?
This, pretty much, turns the Senate into the House. It does make turning over the Senate easier.
Same here.
Call your House Rep and insist that they shut down all legislation and close down the govt until the Senate changes this rule. The House still has the purse strings and it is time for a confrontation.
We can’t let the President back the courts with liberal judges that will rule in favor off his unconstitutional acts.
I heard on Rush’s show yesterday that the nuclear option was only for judicial nominees excluding the Supreme Court. Is this correct, or has the filibuster been done away with for all legislation?
The democrats voted to change the rules to eliminate filibuster of only judges (non-Supreme Court) and Presidential Appointees ... this time.
But they did it by asserting this change could be made with majority vote, and thereby set a precedent. If the rules can be changed by majority vote, there are no rules restraining the majority.
Next time, it will be for a Supreme Court appointee ... or a piece of legislation that really really really needs to be passed ... like immigration reform.
Its bad enough that this will be applied to packing the DC appeals court, the one that hears cases on regulations. But the worst thing is that a 225 tradition of the Senate was overturned by majority vote.
