In a unique battlefield commendation, a Marine Corps member of Delta Force has been awarded the nations second highest military honor for coming to the defense of Americans last year at a CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya.
Delta Force, a counterterrorism unit in the secretive Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), has been thought of as a strictly Army outfit. But it does take on qualified operators, as they are called, from other services.
The Washington Times has reported that two Delta Force members were among a seven-person rescue team sent from the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli to Benghazi on the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Their mission: rescue diplomats, security personnel and CIA employees pinned down by terrorists about a mile from the U.S. diplomatic mission where Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and aide Sean Smith were killed by al Qaeda-directed militants.

Used to work with a Recon, built like a stout one, he was, and probably still is. Nicest guy, just don’t spoil his day.
May the truth come out and let the chips fall where they may.
Ping!
Good for them, but I’m surprised Bam Bam allowed this to happen.
I have a good friend, former Marine that fought in Korean War and was awarded a DSC. A great guy and easy going, didn’t know about his DSC until a few years ago after knowing him for close to fifty years.
Amen, they deserve it and agree about 0.
“The bestowal of the awards was done in secret.”
Thank you for your bravery and service. Just don’t tell Hitlery or she’ll leak the entire information to Al Qaeda.
Which means he deserved the Medal of Honor and they downgraded it. Surprised the didn’t give him the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal or some such.
If this is the D-boy that pretty much single handed “invaded” the hospital to recover the body of the Ambassador he deserves the MOH and our eternal gratitude. The stories circulating around Benghazi about his work are amazing.
At 2012 Marine Corps Birthday Ball in Chicago, as voice-over by Commandant and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps started, the flaming letters of the word ‘Benghazi’ appeared on screen. You should have heard the table of NCOs next to my table. As they cleared their throats, I could have sworn I heard the words ‘ass-hat’ and ‘douchebag’ emanating from that side of the room.
Anybody involved in that valiant action should have been the CMH.
Interesting, though. I did not know that DELTA took personnel from other services.
The few DELTA guys I met were all huge, hulking fellows. The SEALS were the opposite. They were usually very lean, somewhat smaller guys. There are all types in both I suppose, but that is what I observed.
I wonder why the title omitted that the Army solder also won the DSC?
I wondered the same thing, it’s a terrible title and from the Washington Times.
I could understand it if it was some liberal rag.
Secret..you can try out for an Special Force in the military with the proper approval..even Army can train as a SEAL.. its just not common.
Also..you rarely know who is actually DELTA, they are the most clandestine of Spec Ops and work more with the CIA than even other Spec Ops.
Thanks jazusamo for posting this.
Did they throw in a copy of Innocence For Muslims along with the medal?
Maybe because the Army has not confirmed that the DSC was awarded like the Navy confirmed the the NC was awarded?
Maybe but it was all written in the article and if he was going to write about it, it should have been reflected in the title...Just my view.
I don’t think he did.
Sometimes, water will defeat your best efforts to hold it back.
