Raise minimum wage? One answer to income disparity, advocates say. (Advocates know nothing!)

Washington is girding for another debate over raising the federal minimum wage, which has stood at $7.25 an hour since 2009. Many Democrats in Congress – led by Rep. George Miller of California in the House and Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa in the Senate – want to raise that $7.25 amount (actually, $4.87 in 1996 dollars) to $10.10 an hour. They also want to raise the minimum wage for those paid in tips as well as wages – frozen at $2.13 an hour since 1991 – to 70 percent of the standard minimum wage. Meanwhile, those states which have their own higher minimum wage are moving in the direction of increases as well.

If this keeps up, we might as well kiss any chance of economic recovery good-bye.

if the MW goes up by $4.00, you just KNOW the unions will demand a $4.00 pay raise...

Raising the minimum wage only starts the inflation spiral and in two months the people getting it are right back where they started.

This is one of the most stupidest, brain-dead, knee-jerk liberal issues ever. Totally designed to snooker the LIVs and enrich politicians, all without doing a damn thing economically except increase the paychecks of Union thugs.

Even the NY Slimes in 1987 criticized the minimum-wage, which should tell you right there it should be abolished.

If there were a minimum price for vehicles making the price of a Yugo the same as the price of a Corvette, how many Yugos would be sold?

Price a know-nothing/knows-everything hip-hop squirrel at the same price as an experienced worker, and how many know-nothing/knows-everything hip-hop squirrels will be hired?

Still too low, it should be at least $100/hr to tempt people off welfare!</epic sarcasm>

One thing I hate about the minimum wage (among about 6 reasons) is that it puts the government between the employer and the employee. Your employer, you see, wants to screw you. It takes, us, your government, to make sure you get paid what you truly deserve. It just poisons the relationship.

Next up: From the genius of the ‘60s, a Guarenteed Annual Income. Courtesy of kindly Uncle Sam. Who pays for it? Why the one percent, who else.

This $10 minimum wage push is only being trotted out to help Democrats running for re-election in 2014, everyone knows this will never pass. This is just in case all that planned Free-Government-Sh*t from Obamacare doesn’t work out as planned.

“Greedy Republicans care more about giving tax breaks to billionaires than providing a decent, living wage for the other 99%....”

They also want to raise the minimum wage for those paid in tips as well as wages

How about we exempt tips from taxation, then folks can make what they're worth and we get better service?

I can’t take anything for granted nowadays after the Supreme Court ruled Obamacare constitutional.

I know a great way to raise the lowest wages, likely even creating jobs in the process. Offer employees the option to opt-out of Social Security and Medicare.

If they don’t have half their wages taken away from them with the FICA tax, their gross wages are effectively doubled. It costs employers nothing, and even saves them administrative costs.

Since the government spends that money as soon as they get it, there is nothing but the idea that some future government will give them their money back. Nobody believes that anymore.

So, the amount of revenue going to the government plummets, and that money goes back into the economy instead of being frittered away by bureaucrats. The stimulus this gives the economy will likely result in greater revenues from income taxes. So even the government doesn’t get hit too badly.
