Washington D.C. Spends $133,573,928 to Enroll Five People in Obamacare Exchanges

Earlier this week we learned Delaware has spent $4 million to enroll four people in Obamacare. That was nothing. New numbers from four different healthcare providers show Washington D.C. has spent $133,573,928 to enroll a grand total of five people in Obamacare. That's $26,714,785.60 per Obamacare enrollee.

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield: two enrollees from Oct. 1, 2013, through Oct. 30, 2013.

Kaiser Permanente: three enrollees from Oct. 1, 2013, through Oct. 31, 2013.

UnitedHealthcare: no enrollment data from the exchange as of Nov. 4, 2013.

Aetna: no enrollment data as of Oct. 24, 2013.

American's for Tax Reform breaks down taxpayer money given to D.C. for Obamacare exchanges in this chart using data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid services:

“With numbers like these, it's no wonder the Obama Administration hasn't wanted to release how many people have signed up for ObamaCare,” Republican Senator Orrin Hatch said in a statement. “With data from DC's four participating health plans in, there's been a whopping five people enrolled in the city’s exchange. That’s right five. Whether it's significant problems with the website, people being forced off the coverage they had or skyrocketing costs, these numbers are even more proof of what a disaster ObamaCare is and why it should be delayed.”

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelies said in Congressional testimony earlier this week official Obamacare enrollment numbers will be released next week and that the administration expects the numbers to be "very low." Up until now, the administration has refused to discuss exactly how many people have enrolled.

Well...to be scrupulously fair I guess, in the interest of bi-partisanship and all that, you know.

It actually was 6 people...hey, that takes TWO hands to count, all you detractors!

I’m actually a bit surprised.
I figured there would be hundreds (thousands?) of navigators press-ganging DC folks into Obamacare.
Then they would point to the success.

The numbers will be abysmally low and it will be blamed on the website problems. “When the website is 100% up and running, the numbers will skyrocket,” they’ll claim.

Nothing will be mentioned about why millions of people who have shopped and even created accounts have not yet pulled the trigger - even thought that’s the real story in all this.

Even though it proves utter incompetence, continuing to blame the website buys them a little more time before the real issues become apparent.

its painlessly clear that this fraud resident in the WH is hell bent on breaking this country and taking complete control. The obozocare serves to do both so just to appease masses the communist democrats will continue to pitch more smoke and mirrors as the fix to demonstrate that they care until the entire free market medical industry in the US is dead.

The $133M could have been used to pay for annual checkups for 100,000 people ($700 per visit, including lab fees), $30,000 hospital stays for 1,100 people, and $1,200 annual prescription subsidies for 25,000 people.

No delay. First defund, then repeal.
