Ted Cruz and Ben Carson, a 2016 dream team
Jewish World Review ^ | 11/4/13 | Star Parker

The presidential election of 2016 will be a defining moment for the nation and for the Republican Party.

Not so for the Democratic Party. There's no controversy among Democrats about what America should be and what their party is about: big government, welfare state socialism and secular humanism.

The only question about the Democratic presidential ticket is which welfare state socialist, secular humanist the party will nominate.

The picture for Republicans is more complex, and this makes Democrats happy. They see Republican Party dissension as division and weakness, which, in their view, can only help Democrats.

Key issues divide Republicans about principles (what is America about?) and political strategy (what are the best tactics for electing candidates and advancing the party agenda?).

So let me say what I see as the Republican "dream team" ticket for 2016: Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson.

Yes, I can hear Democrats saying, "Oh yes, I hope Star is right. This will guarantee another four years of our big government socialism. These tea party whackos could never win."

And I can hear the Republican "establishment" saying basically the same thing (any chance these folks have more in common with Democrats than they do with real conservatives?).

Both parties are being hammered now in the polls, but Republicans more than Democrats. And among Republicans, the tea party is really being hammered.

So how can I seriously say that a truly conservative tea party ticket is the answer for the Republican Party and the country?

First, looking at polls is the formula for political failure.

My only question on this is whether Carson could take the inevitable abuse.

Ben Carson is a wonderful motivational speaker. Mr. DeMint is great at the Heritage Foundation. Rubio is a doofus.

Mike Lee is such an important figure in the Senate, as is that unpredictable Rand Paul. And Try Gowdy is needed in the House.

but the good Dr. Carson as a possible president? I’m not seeing that.

I think Ben Carson could handle it, especially with Cruz beside him.

So that’s an Hispanic and an African-American on the Republican ticket? Play the race card early.

The only worthwhile ticket is Cruz and Palin.

Anything else is wasted time.

Not to throw a wet blanket but if we don’t stop Obama, there’s not going to be a 2016.

If Obama is as discredited as I would expect the resistance will be much less. He will never make people feel overtly stupid for being so duped which should also smooth over most of the hard feelings.

People should never base their vote on a VP candidate. If you have your hearts desire as the Presidential candidate, be very pleased. We have been there and done that and it did not pan out in 2008 other than to make holding one’s nose better.

So yes, if we were blessed enough to get Cruz. Be happy!

Ben Carson like the idea of restrictions on guns in urban areas. (where they need them most)

Dr. Benjamin Carson On Gun Control: "It Depends On Where You Live"

He's a great speaker and asset but not in elected office.

Or:

I like Mr. Ben Carson very much and admire him greatly, and of course Ted Cruz is thus far beginning to appear to be one of the better leaders we have so far, what Barry 0'Cades has done to polarize our nation will make Dr. Carson a questionable name because of it unfortunately.

Sarah Palin is our best bet overall, since mrs bill is showing every indication of hauling her 4at a55 in the ring and you know every female lib/lez/democrat will automatically vote for her then we need a viable alternative to counter that possibility.

Cruz is the best candidate overall, but he obviously cannot win the female vote whereas Sarah perhaps can.

Dr. Carson is a nice guy with generally right ideas, but he has unacceptable opinions on the 2nd Amendment. He stated that certain guns should only be allowed to be owned by citizens in certain areas. For example, if you live in the country an AR15 would be allowable in his view, but if you live in the city you should be restricted from owning one. Can’t vote for that.

He would be fine as Mayor of a city like Detroit. He would have no say over gun control but might be able to start promoting sanity among a population that already idolizes him as a local hero. Unfortunately I don’t think he has the steel in him for that job.

Living near Baltimore, I’ve known of Carson as something of a “local” hero for years. I know several people who have been personally touched by his remarkable skills as a surgeon and a decent human being. There’s no question that his personal story is inspiring. That said, I don’t see him as a force for conservatism as an elected official. This isn’t a criticism — I believe he can do so much good in other ways — but I just don’t think the political arena is where he was meant to be.

The thing that makes for a great physician, a powerful sense of empathy and compassion in a situation where people will pay anything to stay alive, are in some respects a liability for an administrator who has tough decisions to make among competing needs with limited funds.

They can’t possibly win unless conservative billionaires purchase one or all of the following: ABC, NBC, CBS, USA Today
