Cereal is regaining it’s proper status as a lame breakfast food. Its only real claim to popularity (besides the sugary stuff that kids like) was its convenience, no cooking, few dishes, nice and fast, doesn’t actually taste very good and isn’t satisfying but at least it was quick. But now that every fastfood chain (even Taco Bell and Subway) has a breakfast menu cereal can no longer really win the convenience war, and since it loses on every other front there’s just not much reason to buy cereal.

“Cold cereal and orange juice. Two things I just never got. They both taste nasty.”

Beer over Corn Flakes. Breakfast of champions.

I like cereal with chocolate soy/rice or almond milk. Makes the cardboard cheerios taste pretty good actually.

We all have ways to make cereal edible, which is kind of a sign of the problem. In the end 2 eggs and a slab of dead animal will always make a more satisfying breakfast.

Kellogg Co, the world's largest maker of breakfast cereals, says it will cut about 7 percent of its workforce and slash capacity by 2017

Among the first to go was long time employee "Crackle", of the famed "Snap, Crackle", Pop" trio of spokesmen for Rice Crispies.

Yes, ALDI’s is good on some products. Definitely Milk, you save money and I’ve never been able to tell the difference between it and name-brand.

But it’s just like anything else, you have to decide what works and what doesn’t. I can tell the difference in the can veggies. Something is just off. Can’t buy that there.

Hot oatmeal. I’m no cooking expert, I leave that to my wife and daughters. Extruded cereals are often processed up top 180 degrees C at high pressure. You don’t need that kind of heat for stove-top cooking of oatmeal. People often place oatmeal into boiling water, and cook for a short time. My daughter places the oatmeal in cold water, and brings it to a boil. Creates a softer mushier but more flavorful oatmeal. Both ways don’t overcook the oatmeal, so it retains much of it’s nutritional value. (When I was a kid, I ate oatmeal flakes right out of the box without cooking, stopped doing that as I got older.)

My standard is 10 cents per ounce, which is met by Raisin Bran at Costco or Sam's. Your Malt-O-Meal meets that standard. Oatmeal, even with some dried fruit or nuts added is a value meal. Costco recently had Quaker Oat Squares $4.99/58 oz. and Muesli 6.99/64 oz. (close enough).

I'm amazed that people actually buy cereals that are 30 cents or more per ounce. You can get good meat for that price.

I haven’t been paying as much attention to the cereal as to the ice cream,

but I’ve noticed package size shrinkage to keep the price the same.

Aldi’s here in W/ Iowa-E/ Nebraska has 1 gallon of Whole Milk @ $1.99.

Love my Aldi's here in Pennsylvania, where the STATE sets a MINIMUM price for milk that is nearly double that.

I get the Winking Owl wines at $2.99 bottle at Aldi’s. Nothing special but I make it like a sangria adding limes and a little bit of water. Eggs are .99 cents a carton.
Just pay cash and bring your own grocery bags—no problema.

I’m not looking for nutritional content in a bowl of cereal.

Aldi has a unique approach. You have to make a few adjustments when shopping there such as inserting a (refundable) quarter for a shopping cart

Bring your own bags or cloth shopping bags. Or bring some some boxes. The Aldi cashiers move very fast due to the way Aldi is set up

No credit cards!!! Bring cash or debit or EBT yo!!! lotsa EBT shoppers where I am. Sometimes I watch what kind of vehicle they get into
