The six-term congressmans announcement in an op-ed column may influence the 2014 election to lead the state.
Maine political observers offered early reaction Monday to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mike Michauds announcement that hes gay, ending years of speculation and potentially sharply changing the dynamic of the 2014 gubernatorial race.
Michaud, 57, currently serving his sixth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, made the disclosure in a column submitted to three of the states major news outlets. He said he was making the announcement in response to the whisper campaigns, insinuations and push polls that unidentified people have been using to raise questions about his personal life since he declared his candidacy.
They want people to question whether I am gay, Michaud said. Allow me to save them the trouble with a simple, honest answer: Yes I am. But why should it matter?
As congressman for Maines more conservative 2nd Congressional District, Michaud has long sidestepped questions about his sexuality. But on Monday he made it the subject of a column submitted by his campaign, which required strict reporting and publishing embargoes. Now, nearly a year away from the 2014 election, Michauds sexual orientation moves to the forefront, potentially dominating what was expected to be a highly competitive three-way race...
If successful in defeating Republican Gov. Paul LePage and independent Eliot Cutler, Michaud could become the first openly gay governor in the country. Former New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey revealed that he was gay in 2004, but the announcement coincided with his resignation and a blossoming public scandal.

The word gay used to only mean happy and was featured in:
—Flintstones theme, “We’ll have a gay old time”
—Christmas carol Deck the Halls: “Don we now our gay apparel” (though one retailer just changed it to “fun”))
—”Our Hearts Were Young and Gay”, book and film
—Song lyric from Sam Cooke’s Twisting the Night Away:
“Where the people are so gay”
conservative district that has a 6 term Democrat in Congress?

Exactly - who the heck cares?
Actually, you could say he's a...RAT-packer.
A tweet by AutumnWheels:
“What other secrets you got,Mike? R U a closet communist? Well of course u r. So admit that 2,w/pride. #MikeMichaud What Next?”
Another post lauds him for being truthful. Well does that mean he was lying all these years but is only telling the truth now?
The race is shaping up to be a redux of the last, a tree-way race where “Independent” Elliot Cutler was seen as the “spoiler”, taking away votes from the Democrat.
Cutler has a strong following, but this should put a dent in it.
Pass the popcorn, please. Somewhere in Augusta, Maine, a jolly Frenchman is smiling.
In MA spoilers take votes away from the anti-incumbents, meaning the Republicans. But, ah!
> If so proud of it then why lie to the public while in public office for six terms?
The same reason 0 will probably issue an order to Lee Greenwood to change the words of his song to “I’m proud to be a gay American...”
The timimg is right now after Baraq’s “secret” promotion of the gay lifestyle for the past 5 years..
The real issue to me is not that this candidate is gay, or anyone for that matter. The problem is we let politicians divide us on social issues while collectively both parties are stealing us blind and lining the pockets of the big money donors they are beholden to.
12 years?
He was in the Statehouse for 23 years before that.
Because some people are curious about how many little boys you have raped.
eh, but that’s not like a real job... lol
Chafee is a “D” now, he switched already from Independent. He’s also retiring next year.
His voting record is pretty gay, too.
If we are ever going to stop the gay ageda then people need to stop speculating and talk issues only. I think we are extremely guilty of spreading the gay agenda but not purposefully.
He claims he is a forktruck driver.
(heh heh heh)
EXCELLENT!
Party time!
