On a conference call with reporters Friday afternoon, Republican Ken Cuccinelli said his campaign was closing aggressively and was "positioned to shock the political world" in Tuesday's Virginia election. Cuccinelli, who trails Democrat Terry McAuliffe in polling, said his campaign was beating their turnout and grass roots goals.
Cuccinelli stressed repeatedly that President Obama's decision to campaign on Sunday with McAuliffe was a "great opportunity" for the Republican's campaign. "[The Democrats] are having a rally to celebrate ObamaCare," Cuccinelli said. He noted that he was the "first person in the country" to fight ObamaCare, referencing the fact that he was the first to file a lawsuit challenging the health care law, and welcomed the introduction of the issue into the Governor's race.
He dismissed the possibility that Obama's appearance would energize Democrats to turn out for McAuliffe. He noted that McAuliffe has released very few specifics about his proposals, making it difficult to increase interest in the campaign. "Voters want to be for something," Cuccinelli said.
McAuliffe has maintained a steady lead in recent polling. The Democrat has been helped by a significant fundraising advantage. In recent weeks, McAuliffe has enjoyed a 3 or 4-1 advantage on the airwaves. In the closing days of the campaign, union and Democrat interest groups have poured additional resources into McAuliffe's campaign, but additional ad spending at this stage in the campaign delivers diminishing returns.
"We may be out raised," Cuccinelli said. "But, we won't be outworked."
Tuesday's election is expected to have a very low turnout, certainly much lower than the turnout in 2012. The electorate in odd-years tends to be older and more conservative than in presidential years, giving the Cuccinelli campaign hope of a strong finish.

Hoping and praying hes right!
I do, and I will crawl over broken glass.
I’m surprised that Cuccinelli hasn’t been campaigning on Obamacare already. I’d think that would be a lightening rod issue especially if he was one of the first in the country to file legal action against it.
The “Cooch” is as you describe him but if you saw the anti-Cuchinelli ads you would see a weird-angled, posterized photo of him that looks nothing less than demonic.
Saw an article that McAwful was pretending Ken 25 to 1 on tv ads.
No complaints from the media about the influence of money on the race either.
Everywhere I travel through SW Virginia all I see is Cuccinell posters and none for that other want to be.
Well, remember how poor, inoffensive Bush was always depicted...it was pretty hard to make such a weak guy look like a monster, but they managed.
A bunch of thumbs up! This is a race I’ll be watching.
Latest polls show that race tightening to within 2 points.
I wonder whether they polled the zombie voters, too?
The Dems here in Virginia went to court to stop the voter lists from being purged of dead and ineligible voters. They lost.
During their testimony they basically admitted they would lose if the ineligible voters were not allowed to remain on the voting lists.
Well, that should guarantee Cuccinelli about 5% of the vote. :)
Have been in NoVA twice in the past week and you'd never know anyone was running against McAuliffe.
VA truly is divided against itself. It seems that if the entire state south of Fauquier and Stafford turns out and Richmond stays home, maybe KC can eke this out...?
Maybe Virginia should be split again?
MOST of them should. It seems almost all states have a situation where one or two small geographic (urban) centers dominate the political landscape. Something’s gotta give, somewhere. Sometime.
200 City-States?
400 Senators?
lol
That’s what’s so overjoying about this. Ken knows what fraud is going on in VA - there’s been more attempts to fix fraud there than almost anywhere - and if he’s confident, it means his internals are looking good AND he senses there will be a successful check on fraud.
Great news all around! Lord keep him and finally destroy his satanic opponent, once and for all!
Pray for storms and cold in the northern part of the state?
Lonegan? Lonegan outperformed the polls. Unfortunately, he was too far behind. Not one poll showed Lonegan behnd by less than 10. Several polls show Cuccinelli behind by low single digits.
Send Ken some money today... They need money to put ads during football games this weekend to reach the crowds. Praying he wins !!!
