Im a healthy 34-year-old with a taxable income hovering right around the Obamacare subsidy level who, for the last several years, has purchased a relatively inexpensive catastrophic health insurance plan from Blue Shield. I get to see the doctor four times a year for a $30 co-pay, and I wont have to spend the rest of my life working off the debt if I get hit by a bus.
....
When Obamacare comes fully online, it will do wonders to provide healthcare for people who were not eligible for Medicaid but still could not afford health insurance. If this system is going to be sustainable, however, were going to need to find a way to get older and wealthier Americans to chip in more. Because, right now, its young, middle-class people just outside the subsidy range who are biting the bullet. Young, middle-class people who already bore the highest toll in the recent financial collapse, who have seen our wages sliced and our job prospects dwindle.
You can only ride our backs for so long before were going to tell you enough is enough.

A lot of the working middle class are worse off than the welfare class.
Welcome to Utopia, fools.
Yeah, well, bring on the day.
Next up...bring on the death panels to rid the nation of those “rich old people” who’re supposedly draining these whiny, young, middle class urban professionals.
Typical liberal spin. Instead of looking for free-market solutions, the writer simply wants to increase taxes on somebody else.
Bigger and bigger government is not the solution, pal.
——before were going to tell you enough is enough.-—
ha..... telling is like Obama telling Iran.
Showing that enough is too much is required. Stacking the barricades from the memorial on the White House side of the street is first order showing.
I would think there is real fear of large scale showing. There is no fear of merely telling
A teller is basically apathetic
My response to the author of this piece is that, in the 80s when you were apparently an infant, young people saw enormous growth in opportunity at the same time as they experienced declining taxation and declining interest rates. Young people could see a bright future in a great nation.
What do you think was the difference? Microprocessor technology was one factor—it opened up a lot of job opportunities but especially in the US. Health care costs were a concern then, too, but not nearly as great a concern as now. The nation had just experienced severe economic stress during the period from 1973-1982 but it turned around.
The government did not follow your implied recommendations and did not increase taxation of the old and the wealthy. Despite that, the nation and its youth did spectacularly well.
Hmmmmm—could there be any other explanation?
I am older, and likely wealthier than him. I cannot chip in any more. I am stretched to the limit, and have not even seen what the cost of my health insurance will be for next year yet.
How about another plan: get rid of 0bamacare, and he can keep his old plan with minimal premium increase. He apparently blames the older, “wealthier” for his problems, instead of blaming 0bamacare and all those who brought it to us (all the Dems, Ben Nelson, John Roberts..etc).
I’m just guessing that Matt voted for this putz and was happy when Obamacare was coming. Now that the reality of it has hit him, he’s a little shocked. Everyone was saying it was bad, yet San Fran Nan said it had to be passed to know what was in it. Now the rubber meets the road.
If they are upset now, wait until October of 2014 when they see how much the Obamacare Penalties (excuse me, taxes) will go through the roof.
Yes, the Youth are going to be Pissed!
The fact that middle class has been ridden more than Seattle Slew is irrelevant.
Notice how no one is saying a word about the able bodied freeloaders who have made a living for generations off welfare.
Pay up, you younger people. The welfare freeloaders want want larger TV's, their free health care and obomaphones. Maybe they'll be demanding free cars next, too.
So....shut up and get back to work you whining slackers. Someone has to pay for all their free stuff!
People forget there is a difference between health care INSURANCE and health CARE.
By law those that could not afford CARE got it FREE by the states and FED in several programs. Now states will get revenue and not provide that CARE. Think we will get a tax reduction?
We are older, one on Medicare+supplemental, one on a Bridge policy for the next 3 years. We earn just under the median income with two sole proprietorships. That is gross. We are both still working, pay income taxes and pay SS/Medicare taxes. At 70+, I pay Medicare premiums and supplement premiums in addition to those taxes. My SS is minimal because I took every deduction I could and still do.
We pay just under $7500 in health insurance premiums/year.
We pay $2500+/- in income/self-employment tax. Together, that is $10k/year and we do not use the health care system outside of one checkup/year that is covered.
Property taxes are nearly $4k/year additional. Sales tax, gas tax, fees on utility bills to buy energy for others. Assets: slowly dwindling due to zero interest rates. We take no government assistance.
We will be assessed capital gains when we sell our property because we have had a business here and we also have 40 acres over the homestead exemption.
Free riders? Hardly. When all we elders are gone, this kid will be amazed at the size of HIS taxes and premiums.
Just the fact that we weren’t allowed to know what’s in it before the vote, should have given them a bit of a clue
Even the people working for large companies are screwed because their access to doctors will take a hit + the employer mandate will cause millions of them to be dumped into the same crappy Obamacare exchange this guy is now enjoying.
“punished enough already”
Should start a PEA Party.
From the title: “Punished Enough Already”. The PEA Party is born!
How could it be unfair to them?
They voted the moron into office.
Isn't that special? The problem with Obastardcare is we aren't forcing enough old people to chip in more. Bless his heart!
How is it the writer's hero puts it? "Ask the old and wealthy to contribute just a little bit more?"
