Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, testified before a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Tuesday about “stand your ground” self-defense laws, reviving the contentious debate in Washington over such legislation.
Fulton said she was there so that lawmakers could put a face on the tragedy that resulted in the loss of her son, who had just celebrated his 17th birthday three weeks before he was killed while walking home in Sanford, Fla.
“He was going to get a drink and candy. He was not looking for any type of trouble,” she said. “He was not the criminal that some people have tried to make him out to be. He was not the criminal that the person that shot and killed him thought that he was.”
She told Congress stand your ground laws do not work because they can be confusing and applied inconsistently.

Ms. Fulton is a quintessential example of poor parenting.
We need laws to protect society from mothers like her.
So self defense laws have to be written with racial considerations? What does race have to do with self defense laws?
True, that, about Cruz winning any battle of wits with Turban Durbin.
Also, Stand Your Ground has nothing whatsoever to do with the Zimmerman case.
Only the brain dead and the political opportunists have the nerve to go ‘round raising it in this instance.
Zimmerman was on the ground getting beaten when he shot Martin.
No issue of duty to retreat or right to stand your ground applied or was raised.
He couldn’t have retreated no matter what stand your ground says therefore it was irrelevant.
Those are the facts the jury went with.
The SYG law is not why Martin is dead.
How in the sam hill does she know her son wasn’t out looking for trouble? He was a gang banger in training. She had not raised him full time since he was 2 years old. She didn’t even know her son. Yet she’s going to lecture us about what a good boy he was????? How well did she know her own son? Did she know he had been in trouble before? Did she know he was a gang banger in training?? Does she even understand that stand your ground laws had nothing to do with her son’s case???? Who the heck is paying her bills for her to travel and lecture us????

The lack of intellectual honesty by democrats is frightening. Z did not assert stand your ground, many blacks do. It cannot possibly make any sense to push this but they don’t care.
Cruz’s statement that we do not really know what happened when Martin was killed should not go unchallenged. The trial transcript clearly shows that Zimmerman was acting in self defense and was not looking for a fight. Moreover, the judge wrongfully excluded evidence of the deceased’s character and propensities that would have made Zimmerman’s case for self-defense even more compelling.
The democrats need to come up to Detroit to flap their gums about SYG laws. Last spring when Jesse Jackson came to hold an anti gun rally only 3 people showed up.
