Sen. Ted Cruz: Obama 'Absolutely Abusing His Power'

Sen. Ted Cruz, the Texas Republican whose father compared President Barack Obama to Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, says the president has "absolutely been abusing his power."

In an interview with Fusion, a new network formed in a joint venture between ABC News and Univision, Cruz said he was "very concerned about . . . the explosion of power in the federal government."

"We've got the NSA seizing our cellphone records, our emails, and we have seen this president expand presidential power in a way that is contrary to the Constitution," Cruz said.

Host Jorge Ramos recounted the comparison Cruz’s father, Rafael — who emigrated from Cuba during the revolution — made between Obama and Castro. Then he asked Cruz whether he agreed, and whether he thought Obama was a dictator.

"Look, obviously there are enormous differences between President Obama and Fidel Castro," Cruz responded.

"But his point was, he was focusing on a statement President Obama made at the State of the Union where he said if Congress doesn't act to enact his agenda that he will do it anyway on his own," Cruz said.

"I think he has absolutely been abusing his power, and when you have a president who says, regardless of whether Congress acts, I'm going to force my agenda on the American people, that's wrong, that's not consistent with our constitutional protections."

A Senator willing to come right out and say that, wow. You can expect the RINO’s and leftist R’s to be attacking his “incivility” soon.

I think Ted Cruz is only beginning to fight and tell it like it is.

Those who care to should pray for the safety of this courageous man.

Let’s wait and see how this other senator from Texas will react to Cruz’ statement.

Cruz said...."...President Obama [said] at the State of the Union ... if Congress doesn't act to enact his agenda that he will do it anyway on his own...

and

"I think he has absolutely been abusing his power, and when you have a president who says, regardless of whether Congress acts, I'm going to force my agenda on the American people, that's wrong, that's not consistent with our constitutional protections."

1955 is referred to as "SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER"

2013 is Senator Cruz SPEAKING TRUTH TO ABUSE OF POWER.

Bravo, Senator Cruz.

You are displaying courage during an historical era of cowardice.

Bravo.

Thanks for the explanation. You’re right, maybe he’ll have the guts to back Cruz. maybe Cruz will give a bunch of them some backbone.

If conservatives would have voted for Romney, we wouldn’t be in this mess. Insurance costs would be going down, gas prices would be going down, entitlements would be going down, taxes would be going down, spying would be down and there would be no amnesty coming. But nooooooo, he’s too liberal. They stayed home rather than vote for a Mormon. And now we have a dictator.

"Look, obviously there are enormous differences between President Obama and Fidel Castro," Cruz responded.

Name one.

OK, there is one - if Obama had Castro's courage and willpower, the Revolution would already be complete.

Yes, he is up for reelection and hopefully he is serving his last term as a Senator from Texas. Cornyn and Kay Bailey had quite a gig going taking turns being good cop, bad cop so we ended up with actually no Senatorial representation. Cornyn really wanted Dewhurst to replace Kay Bailey. When Cruz got elected, that just totally ruined his plan, particularly because Cruz is very conservative. People are hopefully beginning to see the real Cornyn. Really would like to see someone run against him that we can get behind - IMO that is certainly not Vega.
