It is 5.5% overall but an individual benefit can be cut much more than that. For a family of four getting $187 (common in my state) the $36 cut is significant. Not catastrophic, but significant.

I hate to say this but the economy due to the democrats is so bad that the fed has been adding 85 billion a month to keep the thing going. The down side is that this money is causing food inflation. The overall inflation rate is low because telecomunications is getting cheaper along with flat screen tvs.
We need to be cutting spending on the US navy, EPA, college aid, govt. employees, etc. I am ok with food stamps provided we step up fraud prosecutions.
Significant when you buy a dozen eggs and a small container of old fashioned oat meal for $4.50.
If one can’t feed a family of 4 on $150 a week...of my money...

Buying a few Subway, McDonald’s, KFC, Taco Bell or whatever type fast food meals can quickly eat up available EBT monies. I thought allowing fast food outfits to take EBT was a big mistake. Even a $4 Subway sandwich adds up by the time you add chips and a drink and all of that could be provided cheaper at home.
Here in Georgia, the going rate for SNAP is $134 PER PERSON PER MONTH. It is likely yours is a PER PERSON RATE too.
Where did your numbers come from? A 5.5% cut out of $187 is $10.29, not $36. I don’t see any specific numbers on handouts being cut anywhere in the article.
