At 'Justice for Immigrants’ Mass, bishop calls Jesus 'divine immigrant'

Trenton, N.J. - Jesus was the "divine immigrant" who lived his life "traveling from place to place," Bishop David O'Connell of Trenton told the congregation at a midday "Justice for Immigrants" Mass Oct. 11 at St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral.

"Sacred Scripture tell us where he was from and what his ancestral lineage was," the bishop said in his homily. "But nowhere in the Bible do we find his permanent address, the location of his house, where he lived after beginning his public ministry.

"He lived and worked as an immigrant, an itinerant preacher, on many levels," the bishop added.

With comprehensive immigration reform a high priority for many groups across the country, Catholics from throughout the Trenton diocese came together to join O'Connell at the downtown cathedral to pray and show their solidarity on the issue. Some 20 priests of the diocese were concelebrants.

O'Connell spoke of how important it was for the Catholic church to provide people with an opportunity to pray for positive movement on immigration. The Mass was coordinated by Catholic Charities and the diocesan Office of Catholic Social Services.

"Recalling the teaching of the Letter to the Ephesians, O'Connell stressed that "we are fellow citizens and members of the household of God.' The 'household of God' has no national boundaries ... the 'house of God' has no ZIP code.""

Let me be charitable:

I'm no theologian but I'd say the Bishop is on very thin ice here.

To Commies, the goal isn't to enable everyone to rise to their highest potential, but to smash everyone down to an equal level of misery.

Jesus was a Jew in Jewish land. He was no immigrant. He was a citizen by right of birth.

And there will always be a difference between God and Caesar as Jesus Himself explained.

An ‘immigrant’ if one can call it that, from a lawfully defined Roman province at the time, making his way to Jerusalem to pay his taxes......

Yep, I see these Mexicans trekking to DC all the time to pay their taxes.

Where did he illegally immigrate to? Where are the orchards he worked in? Did he have a fake green card? I’m sure the ancient Roman Empire has those records stashed away somewhere.

render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.

The Kingdom of God has no boundaries, the things that are Caesar’s have definite boundaries.

Immigrants are lawfully admitted within the boundaries, illegal aliens are not.

I think so too. Please do go politico on us, Bishop. If you look at Jesus’ travels he didn’t venture that far from home (by todays standards)

And Jesus, Mary and Joseph weren’t Homeless. They even left Jerusalem with some nice Parting Gifts.

Jesus was not a “divine immigrant.” HE was in HIS homeland-Israel was/is HIS, it was the Romans/Philistines/Persians/Syrians who were the invaders/immigrants.

Our Lord was not using the dust he walked on for personal enrichment for the producers in the land to carry Him financially, tend to his comforts, educate him, provide for his health, or His foodstamps, forgive his taxes, feed his family and friends, provide transportation and air time on the temple steps, ALL FOR FREE.

This is nonsense and propaganda of pure socialism, which the Church abhors.

Fuhgedda’bout it, Bishop.

Unfortunately this is all about MONEY"
The Catholic Church is eyeballing a whole new influx of Hispanic Catholics who will be seeking Houses of Worship in the new land of America.
in my humble opinion.

Oy Vey!

Yes, we are all...whatever

Priests are not allowed to get involved in politics.

The Church has a position on immigration. And it is that the Church is against promoting invasion and destruction of a country as the invasion, rendering the host country unable to provide for the poor in the future.

If he wants to interpret the Bible from the pulpit to make a political case, without consulting the catechism, the Catholic interpretation of the Bible by the great theologians, he can do so. No one is making him stay Catholic, but what he is saying is NOT the Church’s position.

Nor is the Church’s position the same as the USCCB’s on the subject.

Catholics are as informed, as a group, on the teachings of their Church as Americans are about the constitution.

So a lot of Catholics who hear this will follow it. The Bible also says, and directly to us, through St Paul, to beware of people who will tickle your ears and lead you astray.

It also says Do Not Commit Murder. We can interpret that to mean don’t participate, as in voting democrat, the party of abortion.

Their are a few priests who will talk about that from the pulpit. Not many.

A few bishops hardly define the Roman Catholic Church, but nice try with a dull blade.

Catholics expect the Enemy to stir where God resides, as he always has done since before the world.
