----"Plan B" and fiscal cliff vote, redux. Having hammered out a deal to shoot back to the Senate tonight -- with most Republicans reportedly on board -- House GOP leadership has been forced to delay or cancel those votes after support among conservatives collapsed in the early evening hours. The rules committee meeting, which would have formally drawn up the bill and advanced it to the full house, has been postponed indefinitely. The reason is simple. They don't have the votes:
What happened? The counter-offer's broad outline, which I've been following all day, seemed to be on track. Then the medical device tax delay was stripped out, and the "full Vitter Amendment" (no special treatment under Obamacare for Congress, staffers, and White House officials) was inserted in -- both at the behest of the Tea Party faction. You read that right: The House's most ardent conservatives decided they were opposed to stalling or repealing the tax as part of this deal, for tactical reasons. I theoretically sympathize with those reasons. The delay would look like another favor to big business rather than the little guy (which works against the GOP's "fairness" messaging on the mandate tax), it would risk disengaging the medical device industry as a zealous repeal coalition partner, and it would take the issue off the table as a Democrat-dividing maneuver for future negotiations. All that said, since when are conservatives against getting rid of job-killing, innovation-impeding tax increases? A wrong-headed choice, in my estimation. But that's moot now anyway. In spite of those accommodations from leadership and a relatively unified spirit coming out of this morning's meeting, enough members apparently decided that the deal wasn't good enough to merit their support. It seems likely that late-breaking opposition from Heritage Action and FreedomWorks contributed to the whip-count...

UPDATE II - Intriguing, given the source:
How hard is this to figure out?! Write, call do whatever to make sure that your voice is heard, because if not they'll CAVE and take whatever McConnell-Reid give them!!
U.S. House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515 (202) 224-3121 TTY: (202)-225-1904
I like your idea, but the totalitarian bastards in the White House won’t go along with it.
This is AWESOME. Boehner and ROVE and CORNYN wanted to cave but the TEA PARTY MILLIONS stopped that madness. SHUT IT DOWN UNTIL THEY NEGOTIATE. that is the “union” way. We are a union of 40 million and we are THE TEA PARTY!! ON STRIKE!!
The Senate will decide this tomorrow. Mitch McConnel has already conceded to Harry Reid. The Constitution will be ignored.
great. i pray the conservatves can hold the line today. then we can work on tommorrow.
Rove was on Greta forcefully proclaiming, “we can’t default!”
I am betting Mitch Mconnell will NOT run for reelection...he knows he will get creamed at the voting booth...and will drop out at last moment.
the people of Kentucky will not return him to Washington, he is a disaster.
Harry Reid is a total embarrassment to the Country..hope his wife calls him to return home to take care of her or their cat or what ever..but we need to get rid of most of the Senate..
Shepard Smith breathlessly reporting on FNC that they’re back in negotiations again...”deal may be hours away”.
Has anyone noticed old Shep must have got demoted to being the evening headlines girl?
Yes... we will.
We have NO OTHER OPTION, other than a RAT.
Having hammered out a deal to shoot back to the Senate tonight -- with most Republicans reportedly on board... The delay would look like another favor to big business rather than the little guy... would take the issue off the table as a Democrat-dividing maneuver for future negotiations...Zero would and will veto anything, at all, that isn't 100 percent what he wants. But he will instead not get anything, and if he spends money without the Congress' (specifically, the House), he'll be engaged in (additional) impeachable offenses.
How did Greta react to that assertion? I just will not put FNC on our TV any longer.
It’s on days like this in particular that I appreciate my job as a fishing guide. Because there’s nothing like being on a gorgeous river in the Mountain West to remind you that no matter how much our politicians screw things up, this is and will remain the greatest nation on earth.
Shut ‘er down baby! We’re up damn near 30% this year on our investments . . . I’m more than willing to take some losses for the sake of our country!
Shut ‘er down!!!
Hahaha!!! Evening headlines girl!!! ROFLMAO
We must surrender or the Brie and Chablis crowd will hate us.
Pray America is Waking Up
DELAY the ObamaCare Individual Mandate
If you're going to shut down the government, and breach the debt limit, you DAMN WELL better be holding out for something the PEOPLE want!!! You can do well in politics fighting for things the PEOPLE WANT!
There is NO WAY to argue against this.. even Jon Stewart understands it. It's simply NOT FAIR to give employers a 1 year delay and NOT give individuals a 1 year delay.
NO WAY you can say, "we CAN'T change the law"... when, it's ALREADY been done... for BUSINESS.
THIS, is a winner... hold to it, let the chips fall where they may.
