WASHINGTON—A decision by the Obama administration to require that consumers create online accounts before they can browse health overhaul insurance plans appears to have led to many of the glitches that have frustrated customers, independent experts say.

Most e-commerce websites—as well as medicare.gov—are not designed to require those merely browsing to set up accounts. But it’s one of the first steps on healthcare.gov.

Consumers trying to create their accounts multiplied the volume of online transactions that overwhelmed the website last week, causing long waits and exasperation. Many people were stopped by a balky security questions page.

Because there are no IT firms in the United States? Or India wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole?

You know, it ain't rocket science - its simple order processing. Amazon processes like 20 million orders per day.

Amazon lets you shop [ie: browse healthcare plans based on generic info - age, location, income, etc.], THEN you check out and give specific data [ie: name, address, SSN, etc.].

Amazon then sends standardized, complete, AND accurate order form to its warehouses [ie: healthcare providers].

I guess Obama never heard of Jeff Bezos - Obama coulda had Amazon's system cloned for like $1 Million ...

Karp said he was concerned when he tried the federal website last week and found that anonymous shopping wasn’t part of it. He considers the omission a “major design flaw.”

Ya think?

I bail out of any e-commerce situation where I have to show credentials before knowing the terms of the transaction.

Anyone who behaves otherwise is not good material for the US gene pool. To hell with them!

The only saving grace of the Zero Regime is it's incompetence. Think of how we'd be screwed if they knew what they were doing!

When contracts are awarded on the basis of ideology and adherence to the party line and correct donations, competency doesn’t really factor into awards. Welcome to crony capitalism!

What if a bunch of people created accounts for Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, etc.? Why not, RATs do it to create votes.

Just asking.

I’d be willing to bet you that the company was over controlled during the development. Constant nitpicking, changing goals and requirements, late notifications of changes, unrealistic milestones, no milestones, etc.

This is a common problem with government contracts, and it takes a company that is well-experienced with US Government and it’s contracting laws and requirements to prevent this government abuse of trust. The fact that the US Government persons assigned this task of implementing the system are ideologues with no abilities except blind loyalty to the Madman didn’t help, either.

I think it was on purpose so the random tea partier/Freeper couldn’t go and see just how bad the deals really are and publicize it.

Anyone who gives out personal information on the Obamacare websites should just email it to the Russian mob...
