An off-duty undercover cop was charged with felony criminal mischief Tuesday after smashing the window of a Manhattan driver’s SUV in a fit of rage during a biker-mob attack, sources said. “He totally lied when he said he did nothing [to help the victim] because he didn’t want to blow his cover,’’ a law-enforcement source seethed.

YES, I remember them and even Zelda Gilroy, super brain. She had the hots for Dobie--small, brunette with a perky pony tail. It was fun. I liked "dad" the best, crusty old codger with a head on his shoulders. He had the family grocery store.

Ah me, those were the days. Thalia Menniger, super cute, stereotype dumb blonde, was Dobie's dream. Fat chance.

He was "undercover" all right.

He was an undercover thug pretending to be a cop!

I did take the I.Q. test. The tester, an older guy, said that I probably wouldn't be happy as a police office because my IQ was too high. It's NOT that high but I got his point. I finished the Academy but didn't take the job because I got the REAL job I wanted, NOT in police enforcement.

That makes no sense to me. Somebody too smart to be happy as a street cop could become a detective.

Unless it's an excuse to exclude smarter white applicants so the pool includes more minority applicants.

Here in the northeast their status as “preferred minorities” supersedes all else (fitness, intelligence, mental health); for many it has become a workfare program. When the local paper showed a picture of a ceremony a few years ago when Newark NJ laid off 160 cops, you wouldn’t believe the fat asses on many of them (and they were the newest hires). A couple looked tough (probably military veterans); the rest weren’t about to enforce any laws that required them to stand up.

It's a shame really. The "thin blue line" needs push away from the dinner table sooner.

Police departments also changed TREMENDOUSLY when they decided that they HAD to hire lots of women cops. And they did. Unfortunately, TOO many of those women disabled out with all kinds of back injuries, knee problems, etc. It's one thing to say "we want more women in the police departments" and QUITE another thing getting women on the streets. I know FOR SURE that physical requirements had to be GREATLY lowered so that women could qualify.

I dunno. If you were in REAL physical danger, which would you rather see show up at your door: a 5'2" woman cop or a BIG, MEAN, UGLY Tact Squad cop? There are no WOMEN on any Tact squad I've ever heard of. But, then what do I know?

Side note: I don't think I've EVER seen a woman cop on a motorcycle, riding a police horse, holding on to those VICIOUS police dogs or being part of the "TACT squad."

Nowadays, as I keep up with those things, few women are "on the beat." They are riding their desks, instead of a patrol car.

1. Detective work WAS an option, but one didn't become a detective coming out of the Academy. Detective work came MUCH, MUCH later in a career. All the detectives I saw had gray hair, if they had any hair at all. I would have LOVED to have been a detective. But it was not to be.

2. Minorities and women DID get a hand up. The police departments had mixed feelings about women cops, I think. Women minorities (darn few) had a guarantee of a job. Most women cops didn't last long enough on the force because too many disabled out. I remember having to RUN up and down a gym floor eight times pulling/holding (whatever) a 250-pound weight. I succeeded because I had physically prepared for the ordeal. Wasn't so hard because I DID prepare ahead of time.

I remember that some women were so weak they couldn't shoot and shoot and shoot because their weak little arms got TIRED holding up that big ole gun. Mine didn't--PREPARATION. But my arms DID get fatigued after a while. Whew! My husband and mother were 100% behind me on my quest, albeit a short-lived quest, but were relieved that I didn't get the position.

The main cop (older guy) who was my mentor told me that he thought that, in the end, I would be happier NOT being on the force. I respected his opinion and, thinking about it long and hard, finally had to agree with his opinion.

That was a long time ago. I don't think about it much. Family and husband are gone now but I wonder NOW how my life would have been IF I had become a police officer.

A few miles south of me by Newark Airport they found a dead trucker who had been carjacked in PA; the carjackers had wrecked their car in PA, disarmed a police woman who stopped to assist, then stole and wrecked her car. The trucker stopped to help what he thought was a cop in distress, whereupon the creatures forced him to drive him to Newark where they killed him.

The she-cop lived, the trucker died, and this joined a list of similar stories in which females simply can’t protect their own weapons (have you seen the one where the convict knocks the she-cop out with one blow? His kids are in his car watching...). Here in NJ they discontinued the statepolice boxing that was part of their training because a woman was killed in the ring; I guess they just eliminated physical fitness as a requirement for them.

Police work should be like some military; do a few years in your prime (maybe set up something like GI Bill for training/education afterwards), then move on. In our early days this was never viewed as an industry unto itself...

Sad story.
The police USED to have a height requirement too. Now, no height requirement. I want to see BIG, MEAN-LOOKING cops.

--------------------------------------

Short story--true.
Eons ago I went to a university here. There was a student strike and the student mobs were SCREAMING at the university president. F--words and so on.
So, said president called in the TACT squad of our local police department--young, big cops. NO one moved. They weren't scared of the TACT squad.

So, they called in ALL reserve cops. Lol. Among the cops that came was a group of about 15 local MOTORCYCLE cops came onto the campus. You know, the cops on motorcycles.

WELL! EVERYONE was scared TO DEATH of THEM...their big jackboots, helmets, leather jackets, middle-aged men, tired, grumpy, ticked off at all the stupid, spoiled students who wouldn't leave the campus--even after the SCARY TACT squad came on to do battle. Harhar. It was hilarious. The riot IMMEDIATELY broke up...everyone scattered and the motorcycle cops just had to STAND THERE and everyone shook in his shoes. :o)

--------------------------------------------------------

Women cops...I dunno. They are like the women firefighters....who CANNOT carry a 250-lb. man down a ladder during a fire. Grant you, the older firemen probably couldn't do it anymore either, but at least they already EARNED their stripes. The BIG push for women cops and firefighters has died down now. I don't see so many of them anymore...thank the Lord.

Years ago I had to file a police report in Newark; the only cop who was in any semblance of fitness was a middle-aged Hispanic captain. The rest were assorted minorities (no whites) in varying stages of obesity; like the special forces in the military, only a small number are actually expected to “see action”. The rest are just workfare recipients.

Police horses are especially trained to deal with crowds. We were in NYC the night when the Iraq bombing started in 1991, and there were assorted losers demonstrating; a group of these cops on horseback galloped past, and they were an intimidating sight. When they started a program with cops on bicycles in my town, many volunteered because of the opportunity to exercise (they needed it).

The thin blue line has become the fat, P.C. do-nothin', mystifiers. Swell.

NOTHING puts things into perspective like a HUGE horse with a cop astride, standing in front of one. I love'em. I wish we had more.
Cop on bike is FAR less intimidating, especially if the cops are wearing Bermuda shorts. But, their guns shoots real bullets, so I, for one respect the entire package, uniform, badge and gun.

Side story: we had a pound hound rescue (cutest dog in the world, but no training) and one day we were taking mutt for walk. He saw a horse and cop, his first ever. He was STUNNED with shock. He had never seen a horse before. Hahaha, doggie didn't move until horse was out of sight.

The bike cops are not intimidating at all, just showing they knew they needed the exercise (there was no shortage of volunteers).

As for your dog’s reaction to the mounted cop, the Incas had the same reaction; in their initial encounters with the Spanish they supposedly didn’t understand the horse and conquistador were two separate things.

Lol. Sammy (the dog) compared to the Inca. Sammy was a STINCA, but NOT an Inca. :o)

The pagan Incas weren’t much better than animals; it made it easy for Spain to recruit allies to overthrow them. I believe “Apocalypto” was set in Mexico; same sh!t.
