Why Is This Not a National Tragedy? A troubled young mother is shot dead and our ruling class...

A troubled young mother is shot dead and our ruling class applauds.

An unarmed 34-year-old woman suffering from postpartum depression is surrounded by the authorities while sitting in her car, and gunned down in cold blood. She is blocked in. She cannot move. And yet she is killed by heavily armed security officers. Her one-year old child witnesses this from the back seat. Why is this not a national tragedy?

Miriam Carey was a young African-American woman who wanted to better herself. She went to college and graduated with a BA degree in health and nutrition science. She became a dental hygienist. One of her neighbors noted that it was obvious she was educated. She gave birth to her daughter a year ago and began to suffer from postpartum depression. She displayed some irrational behavior and was put on medication.

Thus far it’s not an uncommon story. About 50% of women who give birth suffer from postpartum depression. A friend of mine was on medication for more than 8 years after her daughter was born. This might conceivably happen to my daughter. Or to one of Obama’s daughters, come to think of it.

Then, on October 3, Miriam crashed her car into a security barrier near the White House. She was surrounded by security men shouting at her and pointing high-power guns. Was it so irrational to try to escape, to protect her daughter from men pointing pistols at her? A chase ensued, and she then crashed her car into a median somewhere in the vicinity of the Congress. She was blocked by security forces from several agencies. She could not move. She was unarmed, and alone save for her daughter. In her car, unprotected. And then she was killed...

Does ANYONE have a link to video of the actual shooting? I’d like to see that so I can form a more informed judgement.

There has yet to be an official statement about the incident that actually gets the facts straight, but according to this article she had managed to get out of the car before she was shot:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/04/us/gunfire-reported-outside-the-capitol.html?_r=2&;

And there are pictures of police gathered around her as she lay on the ground outside the vehicle.

Dude I don’t think this has anything to do with the LEO’s shooting out tires to stop someone who is reckless driving. You cannot equate apples with oranges.

The cops use +P personal defense loads which expend all their energy upon impact. Even if they were using FMJ’s which they don’t the rounds would likely have embedded in the pavement or at worst bounced into the undercarriage of the vehicle. So shooting out the tires was really a good option here. That is what they should have done. It would have been a good outcome and they could then have extracted the obviously unarmed and disturbed lady from her car and the whole incident would have been over.

But the nascient point here is that what was on display that day was the new stasi with their shoot first and worry about it later attitude. This is not traditional standard law enforcement and we all need to acknowlege it . Otherwise who will save our society?

HOW can a thousand military style armored police with AR’s, helicopters, Federal and military support possibly shoot an unarmed FEMALE and be judged heroic? In broad daylight?

It's preparation of the population for the future. Get out of line citizen and the roid ridden donut munching psychos will fill you full of holes. The new professionalism.

Maybe not in your state. But, it does in mine. Shooting out tires to "prevent reckless driving" is the same as doing so to "prevent some from leaving".

And you missed my point: laws governing use of force in some states are the same for both law enforcement and non-law enforcement.

Further, "shooting out the tires" is not accepted police procedure in some departments. Even though it is legal to shoot at a fleeing felon under certain circumstances, department policy prevents it. Your state may be different. Your city may be different. And since the Park Police is a federal agency, their rules may be different as well.

You are so caught up in "what they should have known", that you can't stop and think: "what did they know"?

I'll say it again: this whole incident would have ended peacefully if the driver had cooperated with police at any one of the three places she was stopped. Rather than asking "what should the police have done?", you should be asking: "what should the driver have done?".

Well I think its already been reported that shooting someone for driving recklessly in DC is not the normal procedure so now there will be an investigation and I will be intersted to see how eager you are to discuss this after the decision comes down. Don’t worry I will find you to ask you about it.

Not sure it’s wise to shoot at a bomb vest.

Probably not! (Go for the head shot!)

Agreed. No one knew what she was doing. That particular area is probably some of the most coveted property for terrorist strikes by every terrorist group in the world. She could have had a trunk full of C4......they did the right thing. I’m happy to blame just about anything on the regime, but not this....

Right, once she expired the imaginary C4 lost its ability to be detonated.

“A woman with a young child was shot to death after turning her vehicle into a weapon on Thursday afternoon, ramming her way through barriers outside the White House...”
******************************************************************
This NY Slimes article started off with its very first sentence being a lie. In the video it appeared she came right up to the barrier, stopped and then made a run to “escape”. She sure as hell didn’t “ram her way through barriers”. I didn’t see any visible damage to the front of her vehicle. This mainstream media fairy tale keeps evolving and growing. WTF, over.

Doesn't it seem strange to you, or anyone that ? or ? could it be just a coincidence ?
Is it just a coincidence ? that Miriam Carey that the Secret Service or the Capital police shot to death was from the same state that Obama received his Social Security number ?

Why couldn't they have used non-lethal methods to take this woman down ?
Perhaps ? that's the very reason why they used lethal methods to shut her up.

This article said: “My friend suffered from post-partem depression and was on medication for eight years after her daughter was born.” That’s weird, and more than a little creepy. What kind of woman would be depressed that long after her child was born?

My mother got post-partem depression after the birth of my sister.

She never fully recovered.

Got to remember that cars have been used for as bomb weapons. Sadly, the police had NO CHOICE.

To those who believe in conspiracy stuff, enough.

FWIW, I've been to DC from out of state a number of times in recent years to join the throngs of conservatives marching on the Capitol and other events.
You know, peaceful protestors who leave the area cleaner and more litter-free than it was before we arrived.
I want to say that I have been impressed that every encounter I have had with Capitol Hill cops they have been rude and obnoxious.
Granted my experiences have been limited, and I reckon there are some polite DC cops, but I never interacted with one.
Just sayin'.

If Trayvon had a sister?

Don't insult a citizen with a mental illness by associating her with a worm.

Paternity.

Dead women tell no tales.

One Eric Francis, 54, is supposedly the father of the surviving child, little Erica.

What's your point?
