That's what amazes me about the Monday morning quarterbacking that is going on today.
If the driver had been a man in his 20's, screaming "Allah Ahkbar!" as he drove through DC, the police would have never known it until the car was stopped.
Even if the only flammable substance in the car had been gasoline, the driver could have just turned the steering wheel slightly ad plowed through a group of pedestrians in or around the National Mall and the US Capitol.
If almost exactly the same scenario had played out with the adjustments I described above, but ended with deaths or serious injuries to innocent tourists, I believe many of the armchair quarterbacks would be screaming their heads off -- asking why the police didn't stop him when they had the chance.
This is the true nightmare scenario the Park Police has to consider every day. It would be devastating, and the resulting lockdown would make Obama's current petulant fit look like.... umm, child's play.
Thankfully, it's never happened. I hope our luck holds.
Execution? This was the totally predictable end to an attempt to break into the White House grounds and refusing to obey the lawful orders of police. As we conservatives like to point out, there as consequences to actions. The police, as far as I can tell, did what they took an oath to do. Sure, some of them may have been Barney Fifes and some of them may not have been as competent as we would like, but there were heroes, too. Mostly, they just had to stop this driver, dead or alive. She picked “dead.”

The NYT would have stories on excessive use of force and police brutality.

Manic Depression in women often comes as a result post partum depression and it is usually permanent.
The family said that they had been slowly titrating her off of her medications which they recently accomplished and that may have been a contributing factor here.
I question some of the actions on the video, but have not seen enough to know what happened at the end. The shots in the video came awfully late for such a public and populated space. Why not block her in with vehicles instead of people? With all the guns trained on her at that point, they were already treating it as a situation dangerous in some way.

The word “execution” is correct.
The White House has multiple levels, or rings of security.
The car could have been disabled or rammed.
There was a child in the back seat. Was the child an acceptable victim, if the mother was?
Is there now an unmarked kill zone in DC? What are the boundaries?
We don’t even have all the facts yet about how this happened.
Downtown DC is a maze. Traffic can be easily cordoned off or a vehicle forced into a “funnel”.
These kops should be glad the child was not killed.

That video shows police incompetence.
They had enough people to restrain her right there if they had just pulled their police car up to the block her in on the passenger side.
That’s when they should have shot the tires out — and they had plenty of time to do it.
And then they fire at her when her vehicle is 100 feet away and on the move endangering a whole lot of bystanders.
That's an interesting point. It's predictable how the kneepad media would have reacted if this had occurred while Bush was in office. And the Congressional Black Caucus, and Al Sharpton, etc.
But, I wonder what the consensus view would have been on FreeRepublic?

That is why many Americans are armed to the teeth.
The vehicle looked like an infinity I35. Regardless, it was no threat at all against barricades. And yes I saw footage of her reckless driving but I have seen worse on cop shows. Based upon the position of her car and the position of police vehicles just before they started firing, I saw no reason to commence firing upon the driver.

A president claims that Islam is a ROP right after the Twin Towers come down, and 3000 Americans perish, because of a Muslim terrorist act and our ruling class does the same right on national television.
Go ahead, flame me. I have not heard him retract that statement so in his mind it is true.
In fact, his successor claims the same.
They interviewed an eye-witness, a 40-ish caucasion professional woman who had been in the 2nd story of a building less than 30 meters away.
She had a direct line of sight and gave that account; I was amazed.
The responders stopped the car, extracted the child and afterwards opened fire, killing the driver.
The woman said that when she heard the firing begin she could not see the position of the hands of the person being shot.
I wouldn't jump to conclusions, though. If the police actually removed the child and shot the mother up close it only takes one reporter to raise questions about what happened for this to become a story.
