There was a thread on FR Just before the last election about this. Don’t have any idea how to find it.
How does it discredit them? It really defines them.
My local paper (CourierPress, Evansville, Indiana) has had paid trolls for years. It’s obvious when they have names that include clues like “Kstreet” etc. This is smart, but evil, and it needs to be exposed, destroyed, and buried.

If you go to the Healthcare.gov Facebook page, you can tell who the paid trolls are. But they're out-numbered 1000-1.
The answer is a resounding Yes.
I know that Doug Hagmann and CanadaFreePress are persona non grata here, but his article in January outlined the entire concept of operations.
The "Cyber Warriors For Obama" project kicked off in January, with funding directly from the Odinga campaign coffers. They have social media mapped, infiltrated, and compromised.
This is just the beginning.
Wait until the “success” stories of the “navigators” start rolling out...

Absolutely.
Fortunately, there are way too many veteran freepers for them to last too long here. They get boxed in and sniffed out pretty quickly. And remember, they also use a version of the "Diamond Technique" here and on other sites, where two or more trolls "agree" with each other and actually manage to shout down the unsuspecting.
Bottom line: Veteran freepers, do not be bashful about calling out the scumbags. And the "sign up" date, while being helpful, is not always a telltale sign. Some trolls signed up long, long ago.
I myself signed up on Democrat Underground when it first started just so nobody else there would take my handle. A few years later I went back to check it out (I think for Schadenfreude purposes), laughed at the big topic of the day (have no recollection what it was) and posted three posts before I got "tombstoned". One poster there said, "Wow. You signed up five years ago just to get thrown out now?" Of course, I didn't bother to hide my dsitain for those animals.

Oopsie, turns out that lucky guy Chad’s social media info reveals he “volunteers” for Obama’s “Organizing For America” , he’s President of “Walker County Young Democrats”, and his Facebook says he is paid to “promote for an advocacy group”, a comment he now says was a “joke”.
