House Republican leaders are stuck with a tough choice after Senate Democrats succeeded in passing a "clean" budget bill which, contrary to GOP wishes, includes full funding for ObamaCare.
The Senate, capping a dramatic week on Capitol Hill, approved the bill on Friday, after Democrats stripped a Republican-backed provision to defund the health law. The final vote was 54-44.
The bill now returns to the House, and is seen by some lawmakers as a sort of legislative hot potato. If the two chambers cannot agree on a final bill by midnight on Monday, then the government will shut down. Neither side wants to be left holding the bill if that happens.
House Speaker John Boehner could, theoretically, just call up the Senate-passed bill and rely on mostly Democrats to pass it. But House Republicans are under heavy pressure, now, from fellow conservatives to stand by their demand that ObamaCare be defunded, or least delayed.
"I don't know of anyone who wants to shut down the government. The only thing we want to shut down is ObamaCare," Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who staged an unsuccessful effort to stall the bill in the Senate, predicted the House would restore anti-ObamaCare provisions -- and urged Senate Republicans to unite with them. "Today, far too many Republicans joined Harry Reid in giving the Democrats the ability to fund ObamaCare," he said.
Boehner signaled he will not accept the Senate-passed bill in its current form.
"The House will take action that reflects the fundamental fact that Americans don't want a government shutdown and they don't want the train wreck that is ObamaCare," spokesman Brendan Buck said in a statement.

Excellent Jim.
Bump!
I concur.
On a different subject, why is O'Reilly obviously for Obamacare? I don't usually watch him, is he a lib?
Yeah, they’re all confused on a whole lot of issues. The demonrats have batardized our entire system of government. However, as of this very moment, the constitution still rules and it is generally recognized that the house and the house alone holds the constitutional power to deny the purse.
O’Reilly is generally a government man. He’ll opt for the path of least resistance every time. No fight in him whatsoever. Just a bloviator.
Are CRs even constitutional?
You are 100% correct.
shut it down.
Well, Traitor Roberts would likely think so as it is the will of the people as expressed by their elected representatives.
Because they are idiots. I've seen the term "budget" used several places.
This is not a budget. The US hasn't had a budget in many years. This is a Continuing Resolution, or CR, that is meant to fund the gvt for a short period of time. And every time the CR is getting ready to expire we go through this big mess of funding this and trying to defund that. Ridiculous!
The dysfunctional morons in DC need to get their act together and have a budget like the rest of us.
Thank you. That comment came before I read the thread about dingy’s implicit threat (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3072156/posts).
Now it’s just a waiting game to see who blinks.
That is an Excellent letter. I’m with Buchannon crowd, Boehnor should send it back piece by piece, a CR for the Pentagon, One for Medicare, One for SS, and so forth.
but then we'll have immigration for all forced on us....
consequences to electing rats, no matter how.......
Why is Fox calling it a “budget”? Because Obama called it a “budget”.
I couldn’t believe the white house reporter, Dana what’s her name, asked Reid why a government shutdown wouldn’t be his fault. The look on his face was priceless. He stammered a little then said something about counting caucuses.
Senator Cruz: “ “Today, far too many Republicans joined Harry Reid in giving the Democrats the ability to fund ObamaCare,” he said.”
I’m sorry, but Senator Cruz is simply wrong on this. No matter what, the Democrats will always have the ability to reinsert Obamacare funding back into any bill the passes the senate. Senator Cruz’s method was going to force a shutdown. So was voting for cloture. Either path leads to either surrender by one party or the other, compromise, or shutdown.
BTW, I still think Republicans should have stood firm with Cruz on this regardless of whether they believed it would work or not. I personally didn’t think it would work, but once Cruz made his stand, the rest of the party should have backed his play. Had they done so, we’d be pretty much where we are now anyway—approaching an impasse and a shutdown—but we could have at least proved we were ready to stand together as one team on this.
I see that my two NC senators betrayed the nation. One is a Rino, one a democRat. I will oppose both Senator Burr (R) & Senator Hagan (D,)
I just read of your up coming surgery. I will hold you and yours in my prayers.
And reluctantly, Speaker Boehner also. May God grant him wisdom.
Improved. There's no fixing it now.
And the house will always have the ability to reject the senate’s amendments. The House has the sole power to make appropriations (or deny them) per James Madison, Federalist 58. There’s absolutely nothing the senate can do about it other than make threats.
And this can play out all the way to Nov 2014 if necessary. The people know the truth and know who to vote out. And there is nothing more important to the preservation of the constitution and our Republic! All other business can wait.
No matter what, the Democrats will always have the ability to shutdown the government to fund Obamacare.
And confidence that they won’t have to.
House should send back it’s bill funding the government. There’s only one way to deal with blackmailers.
