The NRA's "Friends of NRA" campaign has raised a record breaking amount of money so far this year. "Friends of NRA" is one of the group's grassroots efforts, sponsoring volunteer events and fundraising banquets around the country. According to Richmond's WTVR.com, the program has already raised $51 million, with "more than 200 fundraising events left in 2013." The amount raised in the first eight and a half months of 2013 is already $1 million more than the entire amount raised in 2012. What does this say to gubernatorial candidates like Terry McAuliffe, who openly pledge to put Colorado-like gun controls in place if elected? And what does this portend for pro-gun control Senators who have been fortunate enough to be elected in anti-gun control states? Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kay Hagan (D-NC) come to mind. According to the Friends of NRA's National Manager of Events and Marketing, John da Silva: Funds raised by Friends of NRA protect our shooting heritage by supporting youth education, firearm training, range development, conservation efforts, and so much more. From hunters, to competitive shooters, to those who are just proud gun owners, Friends of NRA ensures that all can enjoy the shooting sports for a very long time.

At the Hamburg, PA Cabelas a few weeks back, there was an NRA weekend. The table was swamped with people either signing up or renewing their memberships.

I hope a significant chunk of that money will be spent on “educational” efforts in VA prior to the election for Gov. I hope they will also target competitive House and Senate races for “educational” outreach.
that's why I'm reluctant to donate anymore....even though hubby is a life member for 25 yrs at least..(I write the checks!)

This has been an amazing year. My banquet drew folks from over 80 miles away, and we doubled both gross and net revenues this year.
The NRA Foundation is a 501(c)3. We aren’t allowed to spend on political activities.
I stopped supporting them with money because whatever amount I gave, they spent five times that amount sending me letters asking for more.
I went shopping yesterday at Gander Mountain and the gun and ammo area was packed with folks. All were loading up on ammo. They have greatly expanded their firearm section. It takes up almost half the store! Really cool stuff.
I shred junk mail with my name on it. There was so much NRA stuff my shredder was working overtime. The more money you give, the hungrier these groups get (not just NRA, NRC is bad too).
Exactly. I've stopped donating money and instead donate my time (as a volunteer) to local charities - food bank, animal shelter, and meals on wheels to name a few. They seem very grateful for just a couple hours a week and I feel like I'm really contributing.

Of course not. I just want them to spend educational dollars where those dollars will do the most good.
The NRA is doing its part, along with a few other organizations, to defend us from the assault on our rights by gun grabbers who need a certain level of violence in this country and who are willing to accept a certain level of killing to further their narrow little political ideology of control.

That said, I've since re-upped, and I'll be sending some extra $. This is not the right time for an internal squabble, I strongly believe; we can deal w the Reid ( and similar) issues later.
