I knew I’d lived too long when I learned my country was led by a Marxist Communist Muslim and Russia was led by a Christian. But, after all, Russia is the inheritor of the Byzantine Empire and Putin could now become Emperor Constantine XII. (and I’m not so sure that’s sarcasm)

Putin will say and do what he thinks is in Russia’s best interest. Who would expect otherwise? He apparently sees Christian and family values as the best pragmatic chance to halt the extinction of ethnic Russians, even if he does not hold those beliefs himself. Regardless of his motives, it is quite an improvement over the old Soviet Union.
Putin is trying to save his country and religious values will help that.
Obama is trying to destroy his country and is succeeding by helping destroy religious values with the support of the media/entertainment bodies.
People don’t like their long held views challenged, no matter how weak or irrational. The MSM has shaped every American’s perspectives and views, no matter how they deny it. Where do we get our news? Therefore: Russian leader = Communist, fascism (however it’s defined) = bad, gummint helping the poor = good, and other similar simplification.
The figure of Putin, whoever he might be now or has been (and sorry, but no one here is presenting any knowledge about the man outside the usual superficial crap from the MSM, and no knowledge of how the Russian system of government works, everyone assuming that it is a dictatorship or that it is structured and works, or is supposed to work, like the US government) is challenging these silly brain orthodoxies.
