Navy Yard: Swat team 'stood down' at mass shooting scene
The BBC ^ | Wednesday, September 18, 2013

Posted on 09/18/2013 11:00:32 AM PDT by kristinn

A tactical response team of the Capitol Police, a force that guards the US Capitol complex, was told to leave the scene by a supervisor instead of aiding municipal officers.

The Capitol Police department said senior officials were investigating.

Aaron Alexis, 34, killed 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday.

"I don't think it's a far stretch to say that some lives may have been saved if we were allowed to intervene," a Capitol Police source familiar with the incident told the BBC.

A former Navy reservist, Alexis was working as a technical contractor for the Navy and had a valid pass and security clearance allowing him entry to the highly secure building in south-east Washington DC.

He entered the building about 8:15 local time (12:15 GMT) and opened fire. He was later killed by police who stormed the building.

But multiple sources in the Capitol Police department have told the BBC that its highly trained and heavily armed four-man Containment and Emergency Response Team (Cert) was near the Navy Yard when the initial report of an active shooter came in about 8:20 local time.

The officers, wearing full tactical gear and armed with HK-416 assault weapons, arrived outside Building 197 a few minutes later, an official with knowledge of the incident told the BBC.

According to a Capitol Police source, an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Washington DC's main municipal force, told the Capitol Cert officers they were the only police on the site equipped with long guns and requested their assistance in searching for the gunman.

When the Capitol Police team radioed in to their superiors, they were told by a watch commander to leave the scene, the BBC was told.

They were ready to roll, but then someone told them there were no dogs in the Naval Yard for them to shoot.

We need names and chain of command on this decision.

Sounds too much like Benghazi and I don't wear a tin foil hat.

Kind of reminds of when the FBI was called off the Fort Marcy Park/Vince Foster homicide. And the case was handed to the grossly incompetent, politically attached, government hand out recipient, Park Police.

Though, with a much higher steroid rate. And no doubt, directed by Valerie Jarrett.

CIA op in progress ... wonder how many of those killed knew anything about Benghazi.

Just in case anyone missed it the first time...

This is clearly “not a coincidence.” Here’s a post from earlier today by FReeper
Responsibility2d

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3068218/posts?q=1&;page=41

which shows that, of the 12 mass shooting incidents that occurred since 1949, 5 (nearly 42%) occurred under the Mahdi, starting in 2009 and going through 2013. Combine that with the hundreds of people killed with “Fast and Furious” weapons walked across the border and deliberately supplied to the Mexican drug cartels to kill people and create mayhem to promote destruction of the Second Amendment, and it’s clear we have a criminal, homicidal regime that’s out to promote and facilitate these atrocities so it can destroy the Constitution.

Indeed, IMHO, the NSA data gathering comes into this because it enables the regime to scan social media and chat rooms to find unstable individuals who might be inclined to perpetrate these horrors and develop them into genuine, effective mass murderers.

A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police Department, which protects the city of Washington DC, said allegations that a Capitol Police Cert team was on scene and later stood down were"not true".

MPD is calling the Capitol Police liars. This is going to get very interesting.

Indeed it will. Everyone is running for cover.

Looks like the BBC earned their salaries today.

Trained guys already geared up are turned away?

A clarification: they were not turned away.

The DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) requested their help, as they were the only people with long guns on the scene at the time.

It was the Capitol Police watch commander that allegedly told the Capital Emergency Response Team (CERT) to stand down.

Adm. Greenert (who was evacuated from the Navy Yard during the shooting) testified on sequestration today before the House Armed Services Committee.

Greenert praised the “teamwork and heroism” of first responders on the scene of the Navy Yard shootings Monday and said the Navy is working with the FBI on the investigation.

MPD is calling the Capitol Police liars.

Actually, MPD is covering for the Capitol Police.

The article is a bit confusing, but the allegation is that the Capital [Police] Emergency Response Team (CERT) was on scene within minutes, and MPD officers on scene asked for their help.

But, the Capitol Police watch commander allegedly told them to stand down.
