The U.S-Russia plan to dismantle Syria's chemical weapons is drawing attention to Israel's own suspected chemical stockpile and could raise pressure on the Jewish state to come clean about its capabilities.
Israel signed the landmark international treaty banning the production or use of chemical weapons two decades ago, but it is among a handful if nations that have never ratified the deal.

With Israel (Bibi) calling for Assad to be toppled, more calls for this will come, too.

Do you think that if Israel never ratified the deal, that the UN will push for Syrian/Israeli inspections?
To: Laissez-faire capitalist
we signed and still have chem weapons.

If the U.S. as a permanent five member blocked inspections in Israel, would that undercut the U.S. criticism of Russia’s vetoes as a permanent five member?

I have been to the UN web page on this treaty and there is no list of signatories with Israel's name on it, nor is it listed as such here.

Oops, on the prior post.
The page to which I was referring was the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties. The reason this is important is that had Israel ratified the VCLT they would have had to abide by the Chemical Weapons Convention as a signatory. IOW, they are not bound by the Chemical Weapons Convention even if they are a signatory because they never ratified the Vienna Convention (neither did we, but we abide by it anyway, go figure).

What precisely does Israel have to do with the use of chemical weapons in Syria? Yes, poison gas was used in Syria, probably by the anti-Assad rebels, and Assad does have chemical weapons in his depots. So, how is Israel involved? The Israels have never used these WMD weapons on anyone.

Take it up with Fox News...
When will Israel ratify the VCLT, and get rid of its chemical weapons - if it indeed has them?
Should all Middle Eastrem countries get rid of their chemical weapons?
