Obama will deal on budget, not on debt limit -ABC interview

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama, in an interview broadcast on Sunday, blamed conservative Republicans for a stalemate on the budget and insisted that while he is willing to haggle over taxes and government spending, he will not make a deal would that would impose conditions on increasing the nation's debt limit.

With a possible government shutdown looming in two weeks, and the threat of a U.S. debt default as early as mid-October, Obama said on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that it is up to lawmakers to work out a budget.

He insisted the budget should contain enough spending to help support economic growth and said he will not allow Republicans to attach conditions to raising the $16.7 trillion U.S. borrowing cap.

"We've presented our budget," Obama said. "Now it's the job of Congress to come up with a budget that keeps our long-term trends of ... reducing the deficit moving forward, but also allows us to invest in the things we need to grow."

Obama said trading cuts to his signature healthcare program in exchange for an increase in the nation's borrowing limit is not an option. "What I haven't been willing to negotiate, and will not negotiate, is on the debt ceiling," he said.

With the crisis over Syria off the boil, Washington faces yet another fiscal showdown. Most government operations will cease on Oct. 1 unless Congress passes a budget the president will accept and the United States risks a debt default as early as mid-October if lawmakers delay raising the borrowing cap.

Obama and the Republican-led House of Representatives remain at loggerheads over both the budget and the debt limit. Republican lawmakers have sought to make defunding the president's signature healthcare law, the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, a condition for raising...

The Republicans need to bring in Putin, and he will bitch-slap Obama. Geez, after Putin had his way with Obama, you'd think they would learn something!

But, it does go to show - the MSM can control the domestic message, but they can't control the international message. Without the MSM, Obama would still a community organizer, hustling on the streets of Chicago.

This is all kabuki theater. He knows Boehner will just extend this debt limit like they did last time.

A "budget" would indicate a quantitative limit.

Yup. Boehner, Cantor, Ryan, McConnell, McCain, Grahamnesty, et al, have absolutely zero intent of ever seriously challenging Obama on the debt limit, spending, ObamaCare, amnesty, his overstepping, abuses, scandals, incompetency, nothing. Lily livered, spineless RINO bastards all.

Congress, bureaucrats in government agencies, and presidents past and present...

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

Pay up.

Definitely needs some altering to get it back into constitutionally fit form. Bring in the scissors. Cut, cut, cut. Cut out all the unconstitutional federal departments, agencies, programs and unelected regulatory bodies and our government will be trimmed back to about ten percent of its current bloated size—and cost. And we will be free again. Free at last. Thank God Almighty, free at last.

Yup. It’s either give me all I want or I will threaten to shutdown the government, shutoff social security checks, medicare and military pay and my media propaganda arm will blame it all on the Republicans.

This abominable Obama throne-sniffing piece might as well have been printed on official White House letterhead.

Probably was originally.

This argument contradicts itself - the more debt you incur, the higher the debt service, meaning there is less and less and less and less funds to spend on actual things vs. interest on the debt.

Congress has no intention of fighting over the debt limit either. They are, however, willing to *promise* to fight over the debt limit, as a mean of cramming down their upcoming cave over funding Mengelecare (they will vote to fund it). I’ve already heard Congressmen telling their constituents at town halls they won’t fight to defund Mengelecare in the upcoming CR debate because they’re going to fight that battle in the debt limit debate instead. A blatant falsehood.

The RINOs are lying to us again.
