When Trader Joe's announced it was dropping health benefits for part-time workers, it reassured them that they'd be no worse off as a result.
"We believe that with the $500 from Trader Joe's and the tax credits available under the (Affordable Care Act), many of you should be able to obtain health care coverage at very little if any net cost to you," noted CEO Dan Bane in a memo to employees revealed this week.
In other words, Trader Joe's like some other companies has decided to shift its health care costs onto federal taxpayers via the subsidized ObamaCare insurance exchanges.
The specialty grocer's move adds further evidence that ObamaCare will cost far more than the $1.4 trillion currently forecast...

Frankly Scarlett I don’t think anyone has a clue what the costs are really going to be until full implementation and there is only faint hope that isn’t going to happen sooner rather than later.
But you should see all the people that think it is so cool that they can get a better deal through the exchange! While I don’t believe our health insurance should be linked to our employment, either, I am not satisfied that private companies are now allowed to break their contracts with employees and dump them on the public fisc. The single payer folks are rubbing their hands with glee and I am weeping for our future generations.
and that is why Krauthammer advised the GOP to stop fighting implementation now,let the debacle occur, let people see what they bought when they voted democrat, let GOP win the next round of elections, and then repeal or amend the law.
Makes a lot of sense imho.
Obamacare was NEVER meant to succeed. Single payer was the goal from the get go.
If employers had given employees contracts guaranteeing health insurance, that would be the case.
The vast majority of employees, however, are employees at will.
As TJ’s points out here, they are not actually cutting the practical net compensation to their employees.
The real answer is to repeal not only Obamacare, but the tax deduction for employer-provided insurance as well.
Nope.
If the ‘Pubbies allow this to go through, they will own it. It isn’t like the Media is going to blame the Democrats or The One.
Besides, someone should ask Mr. Krauthammer about the last time a Federal program this size was shut down. (Hint: Has never happened...)
It does make sense. Problem is, like any govmint program, the deeper it get’s its’ fangs into the flesh, the harder it is to get out. That’s my worry.
--the last major piece of "legislation" repealed in its entirety must have been the Eighteenth Amendment--(prohibition)--
What contracts ?? Every company does a new health plan offering every year, based on expense. Since the Feds have insisted on making employer-provided insurance significantly more expensive, Trader Joe’s (and other companies) are making rational business decisions. . .
The exchanges are analogous to a gov't run concentration camp.
I give that a big NO DUH!
Obamacare needs to be defunded, to bad we have a Republican majority in the house that left there spine and balls back home.
I usually think the hammer is a genius but he has to know that once an entitlement goes forward, it’s impossible to roll it back.
I don’t have a contract with my employer.
Instead, we have Tammy Fay Boehner trying to find backhanded ways to fund this destructive POS legislation, and when it does implode the cameras will all be on scumbag libtards, who will be blaming everything on the mute, gutless, ball-less, pansies formerly known as the GOP.
The LOSERS are Taxpayers, all of us who work to live independent of the Gubmint, and all of us who will be subjected to invasive sharing of our personal finance and medical records.
It is going through
The GOP lost 2 years ago
Look at the loser wimps we have in Congress- do you think McConnell and Boehner are “winning”?
The weasels are going to manufacture a “compromise” to avoid shutting down the govt ... period. So with a compromise, like being a little bit pregnant we will have a little bit of obamacare
conservatives in the GOP just don’t know when to stop storming the barricades and stop eating their own, instead of going back to the planning room
This should be a siege, not a surge. We have neither the leadership nor the popular support for a surge
But give the people their first obamacare tax bill and their first experience with obamacare gatekeepers- - and here comes the outrage and popular support and we need that before the next round of elections
Duly noted and filed under "Stupidest Ideas to Ever Come from Krauthammer's Mouth."
Full implementation will only occur over a number of years after numerous funding and budgeting crises. That’s the plan from the very beginning. Single payer is the goal.
