i haven’t read the op ed... or the article above. Putin’s exception to America’s exceptionalism is probably valid...

America is no longer defined as the rugged individualist that stakes his existence on his own resourcefulness, but a socialist looter, similar to every other grabber around the developing world.

if true americans can shed the yoke of crony capitalism and consumerism, we may have a chance to reclaim our exceptionalism. it still exists in our documents, we just need to acknowledge them again.

You gave me new insight into Putin’s op ed. On one hand he is joining Obama in not understanding what American Exceptionalism is. But for several years we have been the socialist looters with lots of firepower overseas. So in one sense Putin is envious of our past but on the other he is correct about our present.

The Bible tells us that people are the same in the eyes of God.

I've never fallen for the shallow grasp at my pride where someone tells me I'm exceptional because I'm an American.

I'm just a humble sinner, no better than anyone else.

No nation, including America, as any implicit right to covertly overthrow another nation's government.

Every nation does have the right to defend itself from any attack. Every citizen has a right to go down swinging, right to the end, if they are attacked.

But false evidence of an attack does not legitimize aggression. Americans have been grossly lied to about their own history and the US government - and those who have the most influence on it - have precipitated wars and revolutions. Which infuriates me as an American citizen whose ancesters were in America long before America was America.

The founding fathers NEVER claimed that the "founding documents" gave America any rights superior to those of any other nation.

"America is no longer defined as the rugged individualist that stakes his existence on his own resourcefulness, but a socialist looter, similar to every other grabber around the developing world."

Mr. h and I watched 'Atlas Shruged I' last weekend and watch part II tonight. I know Rand is not everyone's cup of tea but it was exciting for us. It turned out that part II was very reflective re: current US state of affairs - a 1984 - feeling. Taking from the rich and spreading it out to others, for example.

Mr. h and I kept looking at each other whenever a scene reflected our current situation in the US.

Watch Part I first because you do need to see what the buildup is all about and what the characters are like.

Part II covers more about John Galt and people rioting in the streets, and what government can do to the makers of wealth.

And, if you have about 15 seconds you will see Hannity, Juan Williams, Bob Beckel and a lady at the table who I did not recognize. They play themselves.

It leaves a lot of questions; Mr. h wanted a neat, tidy ending but you are still left not quite sure who John Galt is. Like watching the last episode of the Sopranos and having a WTH feeling when it didn't end neat and tidy.

Part I and Part II ------------> awesome! Both have opportunities for debate.

Invite your progressive friends over for a viewing and invite the conservatives, too, so everyone can see for himself what it looks like when a progressive's head blows up, or if they smugly say 'see that's what turmoil capitalist cause"..............heh..........>

Husband and I enjoyed discussing it later. He is reading the book and wants to read the last chapter to see if there is a different ending! He loves those movies that are neat and tidy! *snicker*

God bless Mr. h - he is the best husband ever and we've gone through some many hard times - mostly medical problems I had - and he is still here. I love you, Mr. h!

"...we just need to acknowledge them again."

Buy 'Made in America' products. Study the Constitution.

Get involved with the political scene if possible.

Make a stand, without embarrassment, that you are proud to be an American and you want to bring America back to its glory. Ask them to join you in returning America to its exceptionalism.
