Obama and Syria: Stumbling Toward Damascus
TIME ^ | February 11, 2013 | By Joe Klein

Posted on 09/12/2013 4:35:33 AM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

... On Syria: when you explore the possibilities for intervention, any vaguely plausible action quickly reaches a dead end.

The President knows this, which makes his words and gestures during the weeks leading up to his Syria speech all the more perplexing. He willingly jumped into a bear trap of his own creation. In the process, he has damaged his presidency and weakened the nation’s standing in the world. It has been one of the more stunning and inexplicable displays of presidential incompetence that I’ve ever witnessed. The failure cuts straight to the heart of a perpetual criticism of the Obama White House: that the President thinks he can do foreign policy all by his lonesome.

He has done himself, and the nation, great and unnecessary harm. The road back to credibility and respect will be extremely difficult.

Or slouching?

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

It isn’t merely incompetence.

Incompetence can be overcome by having competent people around you , and the good sense to listen to sound advice.

Obama appoints others of equal incompetence to high office and has a hard head, and a racist view of America.
Domestically he is a disaster, and his foreign policy is even worse. On top of that he believes he has the right to travel the world at our expense for his own pleasure.

“The road back to credibility and respect.”

Who’s going to build that? In 2014 at the earliest, will Republicans prevail? In 2016, what Republican is going to win an election while obama’s Dept. of Just Us is running the show? And if by some miracle a Republican wins in 2016, what’s he going to say or do about the previous administration? What Bush said about Clinton? (Nothing.)
The Pres_ent will be referred to respectfully by his successors, if they are Republicans, because they all fear to do otherwise. Obama and his accomplices will be praised, not prosecuted.

Suggestion: Relabel the GOP as the Tea Party and then do some strict quality control.

If there’s a future administration that isn’t Democrat or Rat Lite, it must end obamacare in no uncertain terms, along with abortion “rights” and gun “control.”

And so it begins, the left will tear down Obama in order to build up Hillary.

Hillary was his SOS and part of this mess. He goes down, she goes down.

Traveling the world at taxpayers expense, the excessive luxury, snickering at America while he "breaks the bank" is Obama's method for building his credibility. Really, he's like a high school kid who thinks he can impress us by showing us all how lavish he lives. The Richie Rich type little crapper driving around in his mom's new Volvo.

I don't believe there is any road back. In fact, I think things may get even worse if we don't see some stand-up opposition leadership, and that's obviously not Boehner or McCain or McConnell.

You mistakenly assume that Liberals are primarily driven by logic, instead of emotion.

The writer's welcome---and way overdue---criticism does not take into account that Prog/Obama does not view Syria as a failure---his only regret is that others do.

Transformational Ohaha WANTS the US to decline as a superpower.....and has worked toward that goal. Lib/progs are "uncomfortable" w/ the US as a global power....meandering all over the globe to work its will.

As Freeper GERONL posted: In the 2008 campaign the Obamas even talked down the “American dream”, the idea that you should work hard and get ahead. They encouraged people to work for non-profits and volunteer instead of having ambition. They called it “middleclassism” or something.

To your point also is that obama talked down American exceptionalism long before Putin latched onto obama’s flip flop of the term.

Recall that he said every country thinks its special, in its own eyes, chastising America, something to that effect, and wasn’t it in Germany, or on foreign soil where it was said?

Putin probably has more respect for the USA than obama. Together they are a real ideological danger.

Thanks for the input---great contribution to the thread.

BTW, when will we ever hear Obama say something like this?

"......when we ask for the Lord's blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal," Putin said.......

Isaiah ch 7 vs 1,

An oracle concerning Damascus. Behold, Damascus will cease to be a city and will become a heap of ruins.

That prophetic phrase was written by Jehovah God through the quill of a Hebrew prophet over 25 centuries ago, and it could easily be fulfilled if Israel is attacked by either side in the course of this current situation in Syria. I have always thought that the prophecy would be carried out by a nuclear weapon, but according to the last photo of Damascus that I saw on TV it appears that conventional weapons are capable of doing the job.

If Israel is attacked on a large enough scale to inflict heavy civilian casualties I don't think either side of the Syrian conflict would survive the retribution that Israel could inflict on Syria even if Nobama were to throw a hissy fit and hold his breath till his face turned blue, (probably impossible). If I were either Assad or a leader of the rebels I wouldn't be too much afraid of or impressed by Nobama's bumbling policies in re the current mid-eastern "crisis", but OTOH I certainly wouldn't want to be on Bibi's hit list.
