Make no mistake: The president couldn’t care less about the plight of Syrians, the 1,500 gassed to death — including nearly 500 children. It’s all about 2014. Win the House, reign supreme.

This country’s “leaders” have reduced the killing of people with whom we are not at war to political calculus. The article spells out Obama’s reasons, and you only have to look a little further to figure out that the Congress members will do whatever they each feels is necessary to keep their seats irrespective of the human carnage that may ensue. They are all a disgrace, particularly some of the “republicans” like McLame and Linda Graham!

Get a war started. It will expand with thousands upon thousands of Americans killed. This way his Presidency will be extended four more years and finish his rise to dictatorship. Killing Americans is no problem for him.

should Republicans who voted for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars now oppose Syria, the president would be armed with clear “evidence” that their opposition is purely political.

Well, he could try that but he'd be pointing his finger at a mirror.

I know this is cold. I know that this is decidedly un-PC. But does anyone else beside me realize that many, if not most of the children gassed in this attack would grow up to be anti-Israel, anti-American fodder for the likes of Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood. I am sorry if I really don't care that Muslims don't hold the lives of their own children in very high esteem.

It’s all about 2014. Win the House, reign supreme.

Public opinion is dead set against military involvement in Syria and that cuts across the political spectrum. How would this improve Obama's popularity leading into 2014?

Obama doesn’t care about his popularity. He’s not up for election in 2014. All 435 house seats are. This is a high stakes gamble to get Republicans defeated in 2014. If they vote for war, he’ll wage it in a way that’ll guarantee it goes bad, and his proxies can blame the GOP for the disaster during the house campaign. If they don’t, he’s hoping thousands more kids get gassed so his media can splash that all over TV and the internet. In that case, his proxies will blame the GOP for the disaster they will say was caused by their vote not to stop that “evil” Assad from gassing his “own people”. As we saw in 2012, enough idiots could swallow whatever kool-aid they’re dispensing to turn the house, and effectively, dictatorial power for two years, over to 0.

The pattern is becoming disturbingly clear.

Phase 1 - fight a war!

Phase 2 - ?

Phase 3 - PROFITS!

I take it someone is heavily vested in seeing our currency collapse.

War costs money we don't have...

Obama’s red line was set a year ago and there was ample evidence Assad used chemical weapons months ago. Now one month to go until the Obamacare debacle and its time for a war with Syria. Obama must be taking a cue from Clinton who shot off a bunch of cruise missiles at empty tents in Pakistan and a Sudanese aspirin factory just as the news about Monica was breaking.

I disagree. Narcissists ALWAYS care about their popularity, election or not.

The vote, whichever way it goes, is going to be bipartisan.

Obama may get as many RAT votes as GOP ones - maybe more - at least in the Senate. The far leftists will not support the attack. Nor will the true conservatives and libertarians.

I don’t know if there are enough middle of the roaders for approval and if Congress doesn’t approve, Obama has said he’s going to attack anyhow.

He’s got a mess on his hands, no matter how you slice it. I don’t think he comes out looking pretty and I don’t think that anything he says or does is going to help RATS take back the House. He’s the one who is the CIC, not the Republicans in Congress.

But it will still be entertaining watching him play the blame game if things go south.
