“Saddam was merely par for the course in that part of the world.”

Yes, but I’m always happy to see a tyrant dangling from a rope. It’s a weakness, I admit. I’m just one of those guys who gets all misty-eyed at a good firing squad.

True, but in that part of the world, another one comes right back up, and it's inevitable in Iraq, as well.

Come on. The real question is whether it was worth all that many, dead heroes, severely injured, maimed for life, trillions of dollars in cost, all that remained was a regime in Iraq that despises us with the same fury as all those in the area, Iran being the greatest recipient of the war.

All that is on the debit side. Capture of Saddam Hussein and his execution on the credit side. Take the debits put it on a one side of a balancing scale, put your favored Saddam Capture and Death on the other side.

So, which end is going way, way up in the air, which side of the scale won't make the slightest budge?

Finding, Killing Sadaam was not anywhere near the terrible, horrible cost,

DAM IT!!!

And now you've got me so pissed off, riled up at your moronic, ignorant comment trying to bring sunlight into your brain.

I don’t call myself a neocon either, some of my stances though would have others calling me one.

I believe there was PR about Iraqis bayoneting Kuwaiti babies that was later admitted to be lies. I also believe that the Iraqi PM to the U.S. asked the U.S. about what they planned to do back then and was told that the U.S. doesn't get involved in disputes between Arab countries.

All this said they somehow got the Coalition together.

Also Iraq did have WMDs as chemical weapons were classified as WMDs and numerous reports documented their chemical weapons stockpiles.

Guess I started this and you are right. Saddam should have been removed back in the original Gulf War, that or we shouldn’t have been involved in the first place, with none of the additional cost.

This is just an observation after having read the most recent threads regarding the M.E. in the last few years and having watched the innumerable responses from the U.S. throughout my life as they related to “Tin pot dictators” and their regimes.

Notice, since WWII, it is always the tin pot dictators that we address directly militarily, but never the big boys. Big boys meaning those who have the ability to actually harm the U.S. Sure, let’s sit back and lob some ordinance against the minor players, but when it comes to the likes of Joseph Stalin, Mao, or the current idiot in N. Korea the word never goes out and the button never gets pressed. Oh no! We can’t engage an enemy that might cause us harm! Regardless of the moral crimes those folks have committed against their people and those in countries surrounding them.

It’s always another proxy war. Another skirmish. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and a thousand little backwater battles for what? Because someone like John McCain wants it? Because Obama shoots off his mouth? He’s a punk.

I’m a bit beyond my “Best if used by:” date but if there were a fight that really needed to take place I’d advocate for it and actively participate if I found the opportunity; but folks, this ain’t it.
