I've had several requests to start this thread. Please understand I don't have much time to add to the updates, so others will have to step up. Thank you.

On June 30, 2013 The UN met with The Action Group for Syria to discuss a transitional Gov’t in Syria - to include the opposition (rebel). I had not heard about this:

http://www.un.org/News/dh/infocus/Syria/FinalCommuniqueActionGroupforSyria.pdf

Then today, the UN discussed it again:

“Issued after a meeting of the Action Group for Syria, the document lays out key steps in a process to end the violence. Among others, it calls for the establishment of a transitional governing body, with full executive powers and made up by members of the present Government and the opposition and other groups, as part of agreed principles and guidelines for a Syrian-led political transition.”

The below is a portion from an article. I can be taken in a variety of ways.

“The Wall Street Journal reported that Obama administration officials believe that they must respond quickly to the Syrian government’s alleged use of chemical weapons, or else the regime will deploy them again in Syria’s largest city, now a key stronghold of the opposition. ....

“Aleppo would probably be one of the likely targets,” a senior administration official was quoted as saying by the newspaper.”

Thanks for the Syrian thread, kristinn.

I'm just trying to see the down side of muslims killing muslims rather that killing infidels. Yes, I realize it could escalate, but if not, it keeps the Sunnis and Shiites busy while killing each other.

And no. I don't care about collateral damage: Think Dresdan and Hiroshima. Just awful, but got their damn attention! ,which ultimately saved many more lives, including my Father's who after beating down Hitler was getting ready to ship out to the Pacific - until the nuclear bombs dropped.

Vice President Joe Biden says there is "no doubt" that Syrian President
Bashar Assad's government is responsible for the use of chemical
weapons in an attack last week. (Aug. 27, 2013)

I really appreciate this timely thread...especially the "breaking" updates by on-the-ball posters.

1. Thanks for starting this thread!
2. Way too many replies to look at them all right now . . .
3. Has anyone suggested that this “current-crisis” is the ‘next-sep’ associated with the Benghazi-strategy in play when murders happened?
4. Has anyone wondered if we would ‘abandon’ any downed airmen in peril if this “current-crisis” go wrong?
5. Too many “???” surrounding this “crisis” with too many unintended or planned consequences in play.

Obama’s screwed. If he backs out now, it’s full steam ahead for the Iranians...no one will ever take his “red lines” seriously. Limited strike and Assad hangs on... same thing and you toss out millions on useless strikes. Take out Assad...risk radicals filling a power vacuum without prolonged US involvement which will be unpopular with the American public.

If they wanted to get involved, they should have done it months ago by arming the moderate elements. If they didn’t want to get involved, Obama shouldn’t have run his damn mouth about “red lines.”

Oh, and whatever you do, you don’t freaking leak info. about what you’re going to hit days in advance.
