American military intervention in Syria is likely to begin this week, and one thing we know amid the general confusion is that the objective is not to oust Bashar Assad: . ....
How the Obama Administration plans to deal with Assads alleged use of chemical weapons without challenging his grip on power is unclear, but then again, so is everything else about this misadventure. Epitomizing the muddle surrounding the likely attack on Syria was former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Blair is several months too late. Syria is already a breeding ground for extremism. The New York Times reported no less than four months ago, on April 28, that nowhere in rebel-controlled Syria is there a secular fighting force to speak of. ...Syria now attracts thousands of global jihad activists ... Then again, Barack Obama has aided jihadists and Islamic supremacists before, in Libya and Egypt and that is exactly what he is about to do again. Given the fact that both the American and the British governments are dedicated to denying the reality of Islamic jihad and ignoring how Islamic jihadis use core texts and teachings of Islam to justify violence and supremacism, its extraordinarily unlikely that U.S. or British forces will be able to tell the difference between Sharia supremacists and secularists, or act effectively in favor of the latter, if indeed there are any significant secularist forces left in Syria.
After all, the U.S. and Britain presided over the establishment of Sharia constitutions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why will Syria be different? Assad ...has been far more hospitable to Christians, Alawites (of which he is, of course, one) and other religious minorities in Syria than a Sharia state could or will ever be. .... But prudence is in short supply in Washington (and London)....

What do we have to win? What do we have to lose? I don’t see a defined “win” there except to stay out and let them all kill each other. But there’s a LOT to lose.
Am I wrong?
Quite an alliance! Was it not the Three Musketeers who shouted All for one and one for all each time they sought combat? This really should be the new battle cry if or when the statesmen of the Western world go to war against Bashar al-Assad.
The men who destroyed so many thousands on 9/11 will then be fighting alongside the very nation whose innocents they so cruelly murdered almost exactly 12 years ago. Quite an achievement for Obama, Cameron, Hollande and the rest of the miniature warlords.

It’s a bad time to be working in a Syrian aspirin factory.
There is no ‘win’ there because we simply do not belong there. Just like in Libya, just like in Eqypt, and just like in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not one American life is worth losing to save some Muslim.
Welcome to Operation Eat the Dog, soon to be followed by World War Me. . .
We didn’t really win anything going into Iraq except lost Americans and a lot of money. We really can’t afford to go into Syria, but then can we really just let them continue to have chemical weapons? I would not want to make the decision in todays political atmosphere. You are damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
EVERYTHING IS WRONG WITH GOING INTO SYRIA.
As an American citizen I believe I am entitled to the answer to certain questions.
1. What is the goal?
2. Can the goal be achieved?
3. What costs are we willing to pay to achieve the goal?
4. How do we know when we have achieved the goal?
So far, I have heard nothing.
This would put Putin and O’bastard at loggerheads. Make for interesting times.
What is the end game? Better poll numbers? World War III? More dead American military for what?
